Who Can Actually Win the Super Bowl?

Who Can Actually Win the Super Bowl   Bill Belichick always said “I have a real thing for litigious, domineering younger women who know how to use Adobe Photoshop”.   Okay, he didn’t always say that. Back before his potentially elder abuse era, he used to say that the season didn’t start until Thanksgiving.   Given we’re heading into that time of year, it’s worth looking at who you can mount a reasonable case for a Super Bowl chance heading into the  season’s stretch run.   In a season where we have lacked excellence, as well as genuine WR2s in fantasy, to my eye…

I was about 30 years late to the party on Twin Peaks.  For the first time in my life, I watched it last year. The first season and a half were genuinely dazzling, basically right up until Leland is revealed as Bob and is then killed.   That sentence made me remember the sequence in a way that gave me goosebumps again.   The guy that plays Bob is in hall of fame of people with scary faces. It’s him and Peter Pettigrew.  At the centre of it, you could feel a level of genius with David Lynch.   Having said all of…

Three Key Takeaways from the 2026 AFL Fixture

Three Key Takeaways from the 2026 AFL Fixture

• GuyWhoLikesSport

The AFL released its fixture in dribs and drabs last week, but now, finally, the full thing is out. Anyone need a trifold #AFL fixture for next year? pic.twitter.com/wchgDV2lS4— calculon559 (@calculon559) November 14, 2025 After taking some time to mull it over, here are three key takeaways from the 2026 AFL fixture. The AFL is a real estate business My dad’s side of the family came to this country from Greece in the early 70s. All the Greeks that came here worked hard and bought land pretty much as soon as they could. That, combined with free university education from…

The Recession the Bills had to Have

The Recession the Bills had to Have

In 1990, Paul Keating famously described an incoming recession as “the recession we had to have”. I bet Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills are thinking the same thing, at least offensively. Fresh off a drubbing at the hands of the Dolphins, the Bills are having the year offensively that they were meant to have last year. 2024 was meant to be the reset year after running into financial and existential football problems and deciding to let key offensive contributors Mitch Morse, Stefon Diggs, and Gabe Davis walk in the offseason as well as a number of ageing defensive starters.…

I started the new Vince Gilligan show Pluribus last night. The first two episodes are really good and it’s nice to see Kim from Better Call Saul back. The genius of Pluribus is that, like with Breaking Bad, Gilligan has clearly taken pieces from other shows that he likes and retrofitted them onto the world that he wants to live in. With Pluribus, at least early, I see a lot of The Leftovers and a bit of Severance, but it’s not exactly the same. It’s inspired by rather than copied from. Gilligan did the same with Breaking Bad: borrowed the…

Why Not Seattle?

Why Not Seattle?

The Seahawks are contenders this year. I don’t know why we aren’t talking about it. Maybe it’s because the last time we saw their new quarterback Sam Darnold in a big spot, he turtled like Dee Reynolds doing stand-up. Is it because their head coach Mike McDonald hasn’t quite penetrated the mainstream as a defensive genius yet? Whatever it is, they aren’t getting the respect they deserve even after demolishing the Commanders in prime time. But if you look around the league, they have to be in the conversation. Part of the reason has to be their recent history. The…

Two things happened this weekend that seemed to be in conversation with one another. The first was that Oasis came to Melbourne, continuing their world tour of bangers from the 90s. Here's the story Liam Gallagher promised us here on @oasisworld_ Proper psychedelic 😅#oasislive25 https://t.co/TZ4CWm0zDI pic.twitter.com/5JDcMtY8QC— Oasis World (@oasisworld_) November 1, 2025 The second was the LA Dodgers won the World Series in a classic Game 7. What to do With the Denver Broncos?

The Broncos have me confused, like I’m Michael Bluth meeting Anne for the very first time. They just demolished the Dallas Cowboys in a de facto prime time spot. How 'bout them Broncos‼️ pic.twitter.com/wH4SFBEzui— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) October 26, 2025 They did it on the back of a dominating defensive performance where they rendered the Dallas death star no better than one of the SpaceX rockets that explodes all the time. The Cowboys had their worst success rate game of the season offensivelyand quarterback Dak Prescott had his worst game for the season by both EPA/play and total EPA. DAK…

The Tom Aspinall Problem

• GuyWhoLikesSport

Tom Aspinall is the UFC heavyweight champion and clearly the best in that division in the UFC. Tom Aspinall has beaten three of the four best contenders in the UFC’s heavyweight division. So, what’s the problem? Aspinall is a disputed heavyweight champion. But it’s not Aspinall’s fault. His recent history in the UFC could have been told by Lemony Snicket. In 2022, in what was meant to be his coronation in London, Aspinall tore his knee 15 seconds into fighting Curtis Blaydes after having won his first five UFC fights. Then, after coming back and winning the interim heavyweight championship,…

As I watched the series finale of Task last night, tearing up during Mark Ruffalo’s Oscar bait speech, I got to thinking about what I would do if my son killed my wife. I moved on pretty quickly after I realised I have neither a son nor a wife and instead started thinking about structure. TASK on HBO has truly reminded us all just how incredible of and actor Mark Ruffalo is. This entire sequence was insanely emotional and I believe we’ll get him a nomination come Emmys next year. pic.twitter.com/W3Xf9CQl3A— Movie Files (@MovieFilesLive) October 20, 2025 Brad Inglesby, the…
