The Edward Manifold Stakes is a Group 2 race run over a mile (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse in late September or early October each Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
Offering $300,000 in prize money, the event is part of Turnbull Stakes Day and is open only to three-year-old fillies.
Currently a set weights race, the Edward Manifold Stakes was first contested in 1932 and has been won by many nice fillies throughout history including Tranquil Star (1940), Light Fingers (1964), Storm Queen (1966), Emancipation (1982), Alinghi (2004), Mosheen (2011), Amphitrite (2018), and Zardozi (2023).
The best fillies out of the Edward Manifold Stakes may go on to contest either the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and or the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) later in the spring.
The last Edward Manifold Stakes winning filly to go on and win the Thousand Guineas was Amphitrite (2018).
In 2021 Yearning improved on her Edward Manifold Stakes second to beat the winner Elusive Express in the Thousand Guineas results.
Mosheen (2011) followed by Zardozi (2023) are the latest fillies to complete the Edward Manifold Stakes – VRC Oaks double.
