The Rose Of Kingston Stakes – formerly known as the Blazer Stakes – is a Group 2 race for mares run over 1400m at Flemington Racecourse in late September or early October on Turnbull Stakes Day.
The set weights plus penalties event offers $300,000 in prize money and makes a nice lead-up into the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) run back at the track over the Melbourne Cup Carnival. No mare has completed the Rose Of Kingston – Empire Rose Stakes (formerly the Myer Classic) double however since Sedately (1994).
Inaugurated in 1989 the Rose Of Kingston Stakes is named in honour of former start VRC Oaks (1981) and Australian Derby (1982) winning filly Rose Of Kingston.
