The Sheraco Stakes is a Group 2 sprint race for fillies and mares held on Run To The Rose Day at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse* in mid-September each year.

*Note: The Sheraco Stakes in 2021 took place at Kembla Grange due to COVID-19.

Part of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, the event is contested at set weights plus penalties and offers $300,000 in stakes as of 2023.

First run in 1998 the Sheraco Stakes makes a nice lead-up into races including the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) and even Melbourne’s Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) held at Flemington on VRC Derby Day.

Any four-year-old mares out of the Sheraco Stakes may also head towards the lucrative $10 million Golden Eagle race, which the 2019 Sheraco winner Mizzy ran third in. Mizzy (2019) was also the last mare to complete the Sheraco Stakes – Golden Pendant double.

The 2020 Sheraco Stakes winner Haut Brion Her franked the form going on to run second in that spring’s Winners Stakes.

The $2 million The Invitation is also now a potential spring option for Sheraco Stakes graduates, a race the 2021 Sheraco winner Entriviere finished fourth in after her third in the Golden Pendant.

Other events run on the same card are the Group 2 The Run To The Rose for Golden Rose-bound three-year-olds and the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes.

The $20 million The Everest is also a potential target for Sheraco Stakes graduates with the 2022 winning mare Shades Of Rose finishing eighth in that year’s edition of the world’s richest turf race.

The best way to pick which horse will win the Sheraco Stakes in 2023 is to take into account their lead-up spring racing form, assess the barriers, and look at the weight each horse will carry.

Additional factors consider when picking the Sheraco Stakes winner include:

  • Toy Show Lead-Up: The Group 3 Toy Show Quality makes a nice lead-up into the Sheraco Stakes field and Mizzy (2019) was the last mare to do the double.
