The Ottawa Stakes is a Group 3 race for two-year-old fillies currently held at Flemington Racecourse on The All-Star Mile Day in early March during the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.
Up until 2023 inclusive, it ran on the first Thursday in November as part of the VRC Oaks Day card in Melbourne. There was no 2024 event before it moved to the autumn for the first time in 2025.
This race has been run under many different names, owing to frequent change of sponsor. Some of these names include “7 News Stakes”, “Emirates Airplane Plate”, “Schiavello Stakes” and the “Bumble Stakes”.
Fillies may come into the now autumn run Ottawa Stakes race via an earlier lead-up in the juvenile features including Caulfield’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in February.

The 2026 Ottawa Stakes now takes place as part of Flemington’s Newmarket Handicap Day card on Saturday, March 7, 2026. The key events on the card are the Group 1 $2 million Newmarket Handicap (1200m) for the sprint stars and the recently upgraded Group 1 $2 million The All-Star Mile (1600m).
