Run over 1,400 metres each March at Flemington on Newmarket Handicap Day, the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes is a time-honoured Group 2 race for two-year-olds.
First contested in 1862, the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes has been won by many turf greats throughout its history including Tulloch (1957) and Vain (1969).
The Listed Talindert Stakes also run at HQ earlier during the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival serves as a nice lead-up and All Too Hard (2012) was the last to do the double.
The best out of the race may continue onto Sydney for the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ run in April at Randwick during The Championships.
Vinrock (2025) was the last horse to complete the interstate VRC Sires’ – Inglis Sires’ double.

Which Horse Will Win the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes?
The best way to pick which horse will win the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes in 2026 is to take into account their lead-up autumn racing form, assess the barriers and look for any past Flemington performers.
Additional factors to consider when picking the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner include:
- Single-Figure Fancies – In recent years, not many horses have won this race from double-digit odds, although there was a notable upset in 2026 with Grinzinger Heart ($41).
- Flemington Favourites – As a relatively short race, this mostly covers the straight part of the racetrack. Going back and looking at who has recently conquered short races at Flemington is a good guide to who might win.
