MOHEGAN RULER (8) looks cherry ripe third-up for the Williams yard and is ready to strike.

The four-year-old son of Universal Ruler found himself buried in the pack last start over 1200m, swung wide on the turn, and kept finding the line to grab third behind Kraken Time — a run full of intent.

His first-up effort was just as sound, finishing within a length of the winner, and those two performances set him up perfectly stepping out in trip.

Back on top of the ground, he only needs a touch of luck from the draw to make his presence felt.

BEATTY (1) looks perfectly placed here, with most of his rivals stepping out for the first time.

We got a proper look at what this colt can do a fortnight ago when he put them away by 1.45 lengths over the same track and trip — and it was every bit as dominant as it sounds.

The Casey-trained youngster hit the centre of the straight and let rip around the 250m, showing a slick turn of foot that Pike should be able to replicate from a near-identical draw.

TWILIGHT TALE (8) looks a genuine winning chance stepping out a touch further for Michael Grantham and co.

The Savabeel mare doesn’t always find it easy to get the job done, but her latest run over a shade more ground was full of merit — ridden cold at the back before picking up nicely late to chase down Long Genes for second.

Worth noting, she was jumping from 1600m to 2200m that day, so the slight drop in trip here looks ideal. Add in the big weight swing down to 55.5kg with Clint Johnston-Porter aboard, and she’s primed to run a race.

WESTBOUND (16) looks a sneaky each-way play in what shapes as a wide-open affair.

The draw does him no favours, but there was plenty to like about his first run in town a couple of weeks back when finishing third over the mile.

The Toronado gelding wanted to roll out at the 200m before getting tightened up, yet he still hit the line with purpose in a tight finish as the leaders began to tire.

This is another step up, but third-up, fitter, and carrying next to no weight, he’s more than capable of running a cheeky race at odds.

SIXINCH HEELS (11) only needs to produce something close to her best to be right in the finish.

She’s had no luck with wide draws lately — forced to snag back and circle the field over this track and trip a fortnight ago — but still let rip late to grab second behind Undercover Angel, with plenty left in the tank past the post.

She finds herself better off at the weights this time with 1.5kg off, and if Lucy Fiore can park her a touch closer in the run, expect her to be right there when it counts.

COSMIC CRUSADER (5) looks well-placed to pick up a handy consolation prize here after things didn’t quite go to plan in the RJ Peters last weekend.

The Maurice gelding was posted four-wide into the straight and copped a squeeze approaching the furlong but still managed to stick on gamely for a narrow third behind Storyville.

His form this prep has been through stronger company, and the drop back to 1400m looks a big tick. With Clint Johnston-Porter staying aboard and just a slice of luck from another tricky draw, he’ll take some serious catching.

CAPTAIN PLUTO (2) just about picks himself here.

The Williams-trained son of Savabeel gave his rivals a galloping lesson a fortnight ago in the Luckygray, settling near the tail before cruising into the turn and letting down with authority to score by a length.

That was only his third run back from a spell, and while the wide gate means Pike will need to earn it, the step up in trip looks spot on as he builds toward the Perth Cup.

ROCK FEST (4) doesn’t get any favours from the draw, but this shapes as a lovely setup for him stepping out to the mile.

He was terrific in the Fairetha last start over 1400m, bursting clear from the pack to grab third and finish within a length of King Of Light — who, for mine, is no sure thing at the mile.

That was his first run in over two months, and the way he powered through the line screamed that he’s looking for further.

Still unbeaten prior to that run, where he lands from barrier 8 will be key, but if he’s within striking range at the top of the straight, don’t be surprised if he blows past them late in the 2025 WA Guineas.

DIAMOND SCENE (8) looks over the odds here after resuming with a strong win in the Eurythmic Stakes over 1400m just over a month ago.

Clint Johnston-Porter gave him the perfect steer that day — parked just off the speed before easing out into the clear and fighting hard to score by nearly three-quarters of a length.

That was his first run since finishing runner-up in the Perth Cup on New Year’s Day, and he’s been kept fresh with another month between runs, which looks a smart move.

A proven stayer at 2000m and beyond, the mile holds no fears, and carrying just 54.5kg, he’s going to give this a serious shake.

SMOOTH CHINO (2) just keeps ticking the boxes as he works his way through the grades.

The Maschino gelding made it four-from-four to kick off his career when resuming over this track and trip earlier in the month, sitting just off the speed before letting down strongly to score by 1.2 lengths.

He’ll only strip fitter second-up after a long spell, and with the inside draw and a bit of tactical flexibility, this could prove an even softer assignment despite carrying a touch more weight.
