The Ultimate Sports Highlights/ Kick Ons Vids on Youtube

There’s nothing quite like going down a YouTube rabbit hole, and it’s something the boys on the Neds Silly Season Podcast love doing at 2 am after a long innings at the schooner shop.

Sitting around after the pub and watching YouTube is surely not unique to our poddy boys—it’s something many blokes enjoy doing.

But performance anxiety can be real. We’ve all been there: you finally get the remote, ready to play whatever you want for your mates, only to forget every video on YouTube you love.

Never fear! On this week’s podcast, the boys have compiled some of their all-time favourite sports clips to watch on YouTube.

Pass them off as your own or use them as a jumping-off point—the boys have got you covered!

Mitchell Johnson 2013/2014 Ashes Highlights

Jack: “Well, the criteria for me is that it’s got to invoke a bit of emotion, a bit of passion. And no one is more passionate than this guy, Mitchell Johnson. It’s just pure aggression.”

Adam Scott – The Masters 2013

Ryan: “Golf’s not the most exciting thing all the time, but the way he won that is absolute cinema. Drains this absolute f*** off putt to force the playoff on the 18th hole. Huge. And then to win it, it’s a 12-foot birdie putt, and he sinks it for Australia’s first green jacket.”

Greatest Sports Moments

Fogs: “One of the best highlight compilations I think you’ll find on the internet. It’s got soccer, college football, baseball, golf, cricket, AFL, darts—even snooker. It’s just this perfect all-round video.”

Australia vs. Uruguay – World Cup Qualifier 2005

Jack: “It doesn’t get much more emotional than this one. Aloisi, he tucked it in top right, and then the shirt’s off. The boys couldn’t catch him.”

Kawhi Leonard Buzzer Beater

Ryan: “The repercussions of this shot need to be discussed. They echo through the NBA. The butterfly effect is very real. There’ll be a documentary about this one day because the Raptors go on to beat Golden State. Philly probably wins the title if they win that game. The process pays off, and the rhetoric around Ben Simmons is completely different.”

Cameron Munster – State of Origin 2020

Fogs: “Cameron Munster’s on a bender after winning the NRL Grand Final with the Storm. Gets called into Maroons camp, puts that awful QLD team on his back, wins the Wally Lewis Medal, and then continues his bender. Incredible watch.”

Leicester City Road to EPL Victory 2015/16

Jack: “I don’t think it will ever be done again. It gives me goosebumps every time I think about it. The ultimate underdog story.”

Edge Spear Jeff Hardy – WrestleMania 17

Ryan: “You could go back and watch any video on this because it’s widely regarded as the best wrestling pay-per-view of all time. It’s just a huge moment—the pop from the crowd is elite.”

LSU v Alabama 2019

Fogs: “There’s NFL players all over the field in this one: Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Patrick Queen, Derek Stingley Jr, Tua Tagovailoa, Najee Harris, Brian Robinson, Devonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Jaylen Waddle, Xavier McKinney, Trevon Diggs, and Pat Surtain.

And they combine for 87 points. Just an absolute must-watch.”

Peter Siddle’s Birthday Hat-Trick

Jack: “It’s just wild scenes. Peter Siddle—he’s one of the most energetic people around the Aussie camp. On his birthday, a hat trick against England in The Ashes at the Gabba. I don’t think it gets much more special than that.”

Pete Weber

Ryan: “Just a weird sport moment that turned into a huge meme. And the lore is that he’s going off at a 12-year-old kid that chirped him.

Inspired a Tim Robinson sketch too—phenomenal.”

Michael Clarke – SCG Test 2008

Fogs: “We’ve got 15 minutes left of day five against India. Michael Clarke comes on for his second over of the innings and takes three wickets in the over to win.

Easily one of the greatest finishes to a Test match of all time.”

Aaron Gordon v Zach LaVine Dunk Comp 2016

Jack: “Gordon probably robbed. Not probably—definitely.

That was probably the last great dunk contest, and it still gets a run at my household every now and then.”

Kick Six

Ryan: “The second-best rivalry in college football behind Michigan-Ohio State is Alabama-Auburn.

This is a 109-yard field goal kick return, walk-off touchdown win for Auburn. The call from the commentator is what really makes it.”

Guy Mariano & Eric Koston – Pretty Sweet

Fogs: “I love skateboarding.

Koston and Mariano were two pioneers of skateboarding back in the 2000s.

This was kind of their last big part in a skateboarding film, and it’s just two old dudes with 10,000 hours nailing some of the sickest tricks you’ve ever seen.”
