2024 Five Diamonds Day Tips & Preview

2024 Five Diamonds Day Tips & Preview

The $2m Five Diamonds will headline another brilliant day of racing at Rosehill this Saturday.

Run over the 1800m journey, the Listed event for five year olds will see a full field assemble and there’s no shortage of talent in this year’s line up.

The ten-race card will also feature the Group 2 Hot Danish Stakes for the fillies and mares and the $1m Group 3 Golden Gift for the two year olds.

The track is currently rated a good 4 and the rail will be out 3m for the entire circuit.

Race 1: (12:25pm AEDT) MIDWAY HANDICAP 1300M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 African Daisy

J: Tim Clark (58.5kg) T: Jason Deamer

African Daisy doesn’t win out of turn but she’s a very smart mare on her day.

She was well supported last start when returning off a break but was found to be lame in the off foreleg after being eased down over the final part.

The 1400m looks to be ideal and she does back in grade.

Tim Clarke goes onboard for Jason Deamer and if she runs up to her best, she’ll be hard to beat.

Best of the day

Race 2: (1:00pm AEDT) RANVET HANDICAP BM78 1100M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Confess Our Dreams

J: Tyler Schiller (59kg) T: Brad Widdup

Confess Our Dreams comes off a determined win over the 1100m at Warwick Farm and looks well placed to repeat than performance.

Settling just off the leader, she proved too strong over the final part where as her prior start, she had to work hard early to take to the lead and was just collared late.

A winner of four from eight, the Brad Widdup trained mare is working through her grades with relative ease and the form around her is solid.

She draws ideally in barrier two and is sure to be afforded every chance under Tyler Schiller.

Race 3: (1:35pm AEDT) TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP CLASS 3 1200M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 5 Gentileschi

J: Zac Lloyd (58kg) T: Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich

Gentileschi returns to the races.

Prepared by the Messara / Gavranich team, the Dundeel mare has shown plenty of talent in her short career and made it three straight wins last campaign before heading to Brisbane during the winter, where she contested the QLD Oaks.

Whilst she failed to figure in the Group One feature, she certainly wasn’t disgraced.

She comes here off two very pleasing trials and did win easily when resuming last preparation.

The wide gate is a slight concern but if Zac Lloyd can find cover early, she’ll be strong late.

Race 4: (2:10pm AEDT) TAB HANDICAP BM78 2400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way

No. 3 Roaring Engine

J: Tim Clark (57kg) T: Danny O'Brien

Roaring Engine comes off solid second up performance over 2400m at Caulfield and looks ready to peak at his third run back.

The son of Reliable Man does tend to mix his form but he’s always showed good staying ability and I think he’ll continue to improve.

He does race well over the 2400m journey and this looks a nice race for him.

Tim Clark takes the mount for Danny O’Brien and with luck from the draw, he’ll be right there at the finish.

Race 5: (2:50pm AEDT) JAMES SQUIRE HANDICAP BM78 1800M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way

No. 7 Concello

J: Tommy Berry (56kg) T: Chris Waller

Concello was only plain when resuming over 1300m at Warwick Farm but she will have taken plenty of improvement from the run.

Taken back to last off the wide gate, she only really started to get warmed up over the final 200m but unbeaten in two second up appearances, she’s sure to improve and will appreciate the rise in trip.

Last campaign she won well over the 1500m at Hawkesbury before stepping out in the Adrain Knox where she didn’t have the best of luck early in the straight but sprouted wings late to claim third.

The daughter of Trapeze Artist looks to have a touch of class about her and straight up to 1800m will suit.

She gets a senior rider back in the saddle, with Tommy Berry to do the steering for Chris Waller.

Race 6: (3:30 AEDT) INGLIS GOLDEN GIFT 2YO SW GROUP 3 1100M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 2 North England

J: Tim Clark (56.5kg) T: G Waterhouse & A Bott

There was a lot to like about the debut performance of North England and he will have taken plenty of improvement from the experience.

Prepared by the Waterhouse / Bott team, the son of Farnan was taken straight to the lead in the Breeders’ Plate and looked the winner 100m out but just run down in the shadows of the post.

The margin was only a neck and the time was good.

With five weeks since that run, the team have given him an 800m trial where he finished off strongly to win the heat.

Clark stays onboard and the low draw will see him roll forward and he’ll take some catching.

Race 7: (4:10pm AEDT) HOT DANISH STAKES F&M SW GROUP 2 1400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Olentia

J: Tommy Berry (57kg) T: Chris Waller

Olentia returned in fine order scoring a strong win in the Nivison, keeping her brilliant first up record intact and she finished off well last time in The Invitation, despite pulling up slightly distressed.

A class mare, she put the writing on the wall early on, winning five of her first six starts and she proved herself at the top-level last campaign, taking out the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes.

She strips fitter again and will enjoy getting back to Rosehill, where she has won three of her five starts.

Tommy Berry knows her well and will afford her every chance from gate five.

Race 8: (4:50pm AEDT) FIVE DIAMONDS 5YO SW LISTED 1800M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Lindermann

J: Joao Moreira (59kg) T: Chris Waller

Lindermann proved too good at his second run back from a break and he’s strips fitter again.

Travelling in the box seat over the 1800m at Randwick, he was held up in the early part of the straight but fought strongly once clear to take out the Craven Plate.

Winner of the 2023 Rosehill Guineas, the Lonhro gelding is a class galloper, and he loves it here at Rosehill, having saluted in three of his four home track outings.

Joao Moreira got the job done last time and he stays in the saddle for Chris Waller.

Race 9: (5:25pm AEDT) PETALUMA HANDICAP BM78 1200M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 6 Fire Star

J: Tommy Berry (58kg) T: Peter Snowden

Fire Star lines up here in red hot form having put together back to back wins in dominant fashion.

The Deep Field gelding has really come of age this campaign, improving with each run and his most recent run over 1200m at Warwick Farm saw him pull right away from them over the concluding stages.

He stays at that same grade and the 2kg rise won’t worry him.

Tommy Berry goes aboard for Peter Snowden and if he can slot in and find cover off the tricky draw, I think he can make it three straight.

Race 10: 6:05pm KIA ORA PRAGUE HANDICAP BM78 1400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 French Endeavour

J: Zac Wadick (59.5kg) T: Matthew Smith

French Endeavour is racing in top form and was a touch unlucky last start.

Held up in the early part of the straight, she showed a good kick once clear but just couldn’t reel in the leader.

She proved superior at her prior start on the Kensington in a BM78 and stays at that level.

A dual stakes placegetter, she’s not short of talent and boasts some very strong form around her.

She’s fit, she’d drawn well and gets in beautifully with the 3kgs off for Zac Wadick.
