The Five Diamonds
Looking for this year’s The Five Diamonds betting odds, field and tips? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
The Five Diamonds is a recently-created Special Conditions run run at Rosehill Gardens for the first time in 2022 on The Golden Gift Day.
One of the latest seven-figure addition to the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival along with the The Big Dance (1600m), which is now worth $3 million as of 2023, The Five Diamonds race takes place on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup runs in Victoria on the first Tuesday of November.
Rivalling the racing action at Flemington that day when Champions Stakes Day takes place as the final Melbourne Cup Carnival meeting, The Five Diamonds offers $2 million in stakes.
Open only to five-year-old horses, event aims to keep horses racing that might otherwise have been retired following their four-year-old racing season, and for Racing NSW to keep some of the five-year-old talent in Sydney late in the spring.
The race is an 1800m event run at set weights plus penalties.
The $1 million Five Diamonds Prelude (1500m) is the key lead-up to The Five Diamonds and offers the winner a ballot exemption into the big one.
Ellsberg (2022) won the inaugural Five Diamonds Prelude – The Five Diamonds double.
