From the race’s inauguration in 1855, all the way up to the present day, we have every Victoria Derby winner listed from past race meets. Included are finishing times, sex, age and more details of the winning Victoria Derby horses throughout history.

Rose Of May (1855) was the inaugural Victoria Derby winner.

After the opening three editions of the event were won by fillies, Frances Tressady (1923) was the last Victoria Derby winning filly.

Maidens to win the Victoria Derby: Martini Henry (1883), Fire Oak (1990), Redding (1992), Preferment (2014).

In 1995 Gai Waterhouse became the first woman to train a Victoria Derby winner with the success of Nothin’ Leica Dane.

Helenus (2002) is the last horse to complete the Caulfield Guineas – Victoria Derby double.

The 1991 Victoria Derby winner Star Of The Realm holds the current Victoria Derby race record over 2500m winning in a time of 2 minutes 33.60 seconds.

Rebel Raider in 2008 became one of history’s longest-priced Victoria Derby winners saluting at $101 odds.

The 2021 Victoria Derby winner Hitotsu franked the form returning the following autumn to win the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) – Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) interstate double in 2022.

The 2022 Victoria Derby winner was the Chris Waller-trained Manzoice at $21 who ran eighth the Saturday before in Sydney’s Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes only to turn the tables on the winner of that, Sharp ‘N’ Smart, who ran second as the beaten Derby favourite on the quick back-up.

The 2023 Victoria Derby winner was Riff Rocket ($2.20F) who narrowly held on to salute for the punters and hand trainer Chris Waller back-to-back wins and his third VRC Derby success overall.

The 2024 Victoria Derby winner was Goldrush Guru ($8) from South Australia who scored an impressive 1.5 length upset for trainer Andrew Gluyas when ridden to victory by Jamie Kah.

The 2025 Victoria Derby winner is TBC and will be known when the 3YO’s feature race runs at Flemington on Saturday November 1.
