The quality handicap sprint offers $200,000 in prize money and is named in honour of W.J. Healy who was the longest serving President of Tattersall’s (1932-1953).
Inaugurated in 1979 the W.J. Healy gained its current Group 3 status in 1997 and has been won by a number of nice types including the hulking sprint star Hay List (2010).
The 2024 WJ Healy Stakes form was franked with the winner Zarastro going on to win the following summer’s $1 million Magic Millions Sprint race at the Gold Coast before a second in the 2025 Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup in the winter in Brisbane.
