Just getting her neck through on the line, Marhoona edged out Jedibeel who stormed through the middle to snare second with Mazu third.

Run over 1,100 metres each March at Rosehill Gardens, the Group 1 The Galaxy is the feature sprint race on Golden Slipper Day in Sydney.
With a $1,000,000 prize purse as of 2023, the event is a popular short-distance showdown every autumn and makes a nice target for graduates out of the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m). Eduardo (2021) was the last sprinter to complete the Challenge Stakes – The Galaxy double.
Following The Galaxy race, many horses may continue onto Randwick’s Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) during April’s ‘The Championships’. The Galaxy winner is in fact exempt from ballot for the TJ Smith Stakes each autumn.
In 2026, The Galaxy was won by Marhoona a year to the day she saluted in the 2025 Golden Slipper Stakes.

Russian Revolution ($2.90 in 2017), In Her Time ($4 in 2018), Nature Strip ($4.20 in 2019), and Private Harry ($3.50 in 2025) are the latest The Galaxy favourites to win.

The Galaxy Race Day 2026
The Galaxy 2026 takes place as part of Golden Slipper Day on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse that features a nearly all-Black-Type card packed full of Group races. Along with The Galaxy the other Group 1 races on the program are the:
