The Moonee Valley Vase is a Group 2 event contested at The Valley in late October during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
A support act on the popular Cox Plate Day program, the Vase is run over 2040m the same distance as the meeting’s iconic Group 1 Cox Plate.
Offering $400,000 in prize money and open only to three-year-olds, the Moonee Valley Vase is run at set weights and is a key lead-up into the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) held at Flemington on the Tuesday before the Melbourne Cup.
Efficient (2006) was the last horse to complete the Moonee Valley Vase – Victoria Derby double as a three-year-old.
