The Ipswich Cup is a popular winter staying race run and won at Ipswich Racecourse in Queensland’s South-East during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
Contested over 2150m, the quality handicap offers $250,000 in prize money and is the feature race on Ipswich Cup Day, held in mid to late June.
Run one week after Brisbane’s bumper Stradbroke Handicap Day meeting, the race currently holds Listed status after being demoted from a Group 3 event in 2006.
The Listed $200,000 Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) and the Listed $160,000 Gai Waterhouse Classic (1200m) are the other key races on the card.

Which Horse Will Win the Ipswich Cup in 2026
The best way to pick which horse will win the Ipswich Cup in 2026 is to take into account their lead-up winter racing form, consider the weights and look for those proven over at least 2000m.
Additional factors to consider when picking the Ipswich Cup winner include:
- Brisbane Lead-Up: Stayers down in grade off a run in either the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) or the previous weekend’s Group 2 Brisbane Cup (3200m) make a good Ipswich Cup bet.
- Back The Boys: Male runners have a superior record in the recent Ipswich Cup results. Since Portland Singa (2004) the only mares to win the Ipswich Cup are Bianca (2008) and Anagold (2013).
Ipswich Cup Favourites 2026
Favourites in 2026 Ipswich Cup betting include the Matthew Dunn-trained Belvedere Boys, Encoder coming off a fourth in Brisbane’s Group 3 Lord Mayors Cup and classy local Russian Revolution mare Miss Joelene.
Tradesman ($1.80 in 2018) was the last Ipswich Cup favourite to win.
There was a notable upset in 2023 with Regal Lion saluting at Ipswich Cup odds of $21, in 2024 with Red Wave ($17) and 2025 with Flash Aah ($31).
