The Frank Packer Plate is a Group 3 race for three-year-olds run and won at Royal Randwick on All Aged Stakes Day in mid-April following on from the action of ‘The Championships’.

A key support act on the card, the event takes place over 2000m at set weights and offers $250,000 in prize money as of 2023.

First held in 1980 it gained Group 3 status in 1991 and is named after media tycoon Sir Douglas Frank Hewson Packer who spent 12 years as a committeeman of the Australian Jockey Club.

Might And Power (1997) is one of the best-known Frank Packer Plate winners having gone on to win a host of Group 1 events including that year’s Caulfield Cup – Melbourne Cup double as well as the following year’s Cox Plate.

The Frank Packer Plate serves as a good potential lead-up into Brisbane’s Group 1 $1 million Queensland Derby (2400m) held at the end of May and Shootoff (2011) was the last horse to do the double.

The 2024 protest Frank Packer Plate winner Kintyre won the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) next start at Eagle Farm.

The Frank Packer Plate takes place as part of 2026 All Aged Stakes Day at Royal Randwick running on Saturday, April 18, 2026.  The meeting features six Group races in total with the Frank Packer Plate held on the same day as the:
