We have Harry White Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 3 1400m race at Caulfield on Saturday.
Harry White Stakes odds have defending champion Private Eye favoured to win.
PRIVATE EYE (2) is the horse to beat, and the inside draw gives the experienced gelding an excellent opportunity to make his class count at Caulfield.
The 9YO has an outstanding record at the track, with two wins and a placing from three starts. He also has a strong record over 1400m, having recorded two wins and seven further placings from 12 starts at the distance.
His third-place finish in the Shannon Stakes at Rosehill was a respectable effort, and he now returns to a venue where he has consistently performed well. Blake Shinn takes the ride, and barrier two should help him settle into a favourable position.
He’s a past champion in this race, and that experience puts him on top of our Harry White Stakes predictions.
| 1. Private Eye (2) J: Blake Shinn 59kg 5×273 T: Joseph Pride | |||
| Last start raced on speed throughout when 3rd of 8 in the G2 Shannon Stakes at Rosehill on September 26 over 1500m, 3.5 len behind Skyhook carrying 60kg at $4.80. The run before that ran second last of 8 in the G2 Tramway Stakes at Randwick on September 5 over 1400m, 5.5 len behind Headley Grange with 57kg at $5. Gets every chance and is still right up to this level. | |||
WAR MACHINE (4) is our next best selection, and he looks capable of bouncing back after a disappointing performance in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
The gelding finished third in The Heath Stakes at Caulfield before struggling in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over the same 1400m course. That latest run was below his best, but he has a strong overall record, with seven wins from 20 career starts.
He has also won three times from five attempts over 1400m, and Mark Zahra takes the ride from barrier 4. If he’s ever going to return to winning form, it would be this Saturday at Caulfield, and money has come for him to get the job done.
| 2. War Machine (4) J: Mark Zahra 59kg 30×30 T: Ben, Will & Jd Hayes | |||
| Third-up today and won third-up previously. Resuming 3rd of 8 in a G3 The Heath 1100 Stakes at this track on August 29 over 1100m, slow going 2.75 len behind Oliveanotherday with 59kg at $6. Second run from a spell 14th of 16 in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at this track on September 19 over 1400m, 9 len behind Angel Capital with 56.5kg at $21. His best would just about win, can be an improver. | |||
Our Harry White Stakes tips include CARTON GRAVEYARD (3), who could be sneaking under the radar at odds.
The 7YO heads into this race after winning the Swan Hill Cup over 1600m in June, producing a strong late finish to score by a narrow margin. He also finished second at Caulfield in a Benchmark 100 over 1600m earlier in the same month, showing that he can compete at this venue.
The drop back to 1400m is worth considering, but he has won four times from 13 starts at the distance. Craig Newitt takes the ride, and barrier 3 should help him secure an easy run through the race.
He is a roughie chance, but given the odds, he’s worth including in picks to boost payouts.
| 8. Cartoon Graveyard (3) J: Craig Newitt 58kg 0521x T: John Keys | |||
| Resuming after a break of four-and-a-half months. Finished off last campaign won by neck Swan Hill Sw H Cup June 7 over 1600m slow track defeating Fine Future with 54.5kg at $4.60. When resuming last campaign third of 9 at Launceston Ladbrokes Stks January 23 over 1200m, soft track; 2.75 len behind Mazzini carrying 58.5kg at $17. See this one. | |||
