Newcastle head to the Coventry Building Society Arena to take on Coventry on Tuesday 13 October. Kick-off is 6:00am AEDT, and our Coventry vs Newcastle prediction is locked in.
Coventry vs Newcastle match prediction
Coventry finally got their first win of the season at Forest before the break, and that gives this fixture a totally different feel.
They are still missing plenty of players, but they will now believe they can make Newcastle uncomfortable under the lights.
Newcastle’s injury list is ugly. Anthony Elanga is out, and Dan Burn, Jacob Ramsey and Will Osula are all in doubt, which leaves Matthias Jaissle working with a pretty patched-up group.
Yoane Wissa is still the obvious threat, but Coventry will not be scared of a side that has not looked particularly settled.
I can see Newcastle having more of the ball, Coventry having the better moments in transition, and everyone walking away with one point and a complaint about something.
Score Prediction: Coventry City 1-1 Newcastle United
Potential Goal Scorer: Jack Rudoni
- Correct score 1-1 @ $7.50: our score prediction. Newcastle have conceded in 3 of their last 5 games.
- Score draw @ $4.00: pays on any level score with both sides scoring, which covers our 1-1 call.
- Coventry or draw @ $1.70: a safer way to play the draw, with Newcastle missing Anthony Elanga, Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen.
- Under 2.5 goals @ $2.20: Coventry have scored only 2 goals in their last 5 games.

Head to head and what it means for our prediction
Newcastle have won all of the last 4 meetings, scoring 12 goals and conceding 4.
| Date | Home | Score | Away |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18 Feb 2010 | Newcastle | 4-1 | Coventry |
| 10 Dec 2009 | Coventry | 0-2 | Newcastle |
| 27 Aug 2008 | Coventry | 2-3 | Newcastle |
| 30 Jan 2005 | Newcastle | 3-1 | Coventry |
These sides have not met since 2010, and Newcastle have won the last 7 meetings going back to 2000. That history is too old to carry much weight, so we’re leaning on current form.
Form and stats behind our tips
Coventry lost 4 straight in all competitions before a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest. Newcastle have won 3 of their last 5.

- Both teams scored in 1 of Coventry’s last 5 games and 3 of Newcastle’s.
- Over 2.5 goals landed in 2 of Coventry’s last 5 and 3 of Newcastle’s.
- Coventry kept 1 clean sheet in their last 5. Newcastle kept 2.
- Coventry sit 18th on 3 points (1 win, 4 losses). Newcastle sit 9th on 8 points (2 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss).
Newcastle have scored in all of their last 5 but conceded 7 goals, so we can see Coventry getting one back.
Coventry: Taiwo Awoniyi (suspended), Haji Wright (thigh), Aurèle Amenda (calf), Luke Woolfenden (knee), Kaine Kesler-Hayden (hamstring) and Oliver Dovin (shoulder) are out. Josh Eccles (calf) is in doubt, and Milan van Ewijk is expected to be fit. Losing Awoniyi and Wright takes two forwards out of the Coventry attack.
Newcastle: Ewen Jaouen (hamstring), Anthony Elanga (hamstring) and Tino Livramento (muscle) are out. Dan Burn, Amar Dedic, Jacob Ramsey and William Osula are in doubt, while Joelinton, Nico Gonzalez and Lewis Miley are available. Missing Elanga, one of their joint top scorers, is why we don’t fancy the Newcastle win.
- Jack Rudoni anytime goalscorer @ $5.00: our goalscorer pick, and fit to play.
- Yoane Wissa anytime goalscorer @ $2.90: Newcastle’s shortest-priced player to score, and fit to play.
