Retro Round is everywhere in the world of AFL, with both Fremantle and the Western Bulldogs bringing back some classic jumpers from the 1990s.
Freo will be rocking their iconic 3D anchor jumper in their Round 20 Friday night clash against the Dees
you love to see it. pic.twitter.com/zAN43Bgy6b

Even the Western Bulldogs are going to bring back Robo-Dog to commemorate 25 years since the last game at the Whitten Oval in Round 21
So clean 😮💨

From the team that brought you “The AFL’s Long-Sleeved Fashion Icons“, “The Best and Worst of Pre-Season Footy Jumpers” along with other fashion blogs including “Euro 2020 Kit Rankings” and “2021 NRL Jersey Rankings” comes to the best (and worst) footy jumpers from the 1990s.
ADELAIDE
BEST:
Original Crows jumper 1991 – 1993, Camry sponsor, acrylic wool.
As modelled here by Andrew Jarman, in the long sleeve version.
Remember when … Andrew Jarman kept the long-sleeve guernsey shop in business #25seasons pic.twitter.com/q1HGjVlAu4

The away jumper of the late 90’s as modelled here by Darren.

BRISBANE BEARS
BEST
The Bears jumper from 1992 – 1996 before merging with Fitzroy was one of the best footy jumpers going round.
Nathan Buckley's coaching the Magpies today, but in #Ninety3 he was in Brisbane. On Monday we talk to Robert Walls about the Bears, Buckley and getting off the Gold Coast. Preview here https://t.co/sbCswTSzNs pic.twitter.com/7kVeFVZHEj

Perhaps a bit harsh, but before it became cool and ironic the original BB number was considered a Barry Crocker.
CARLTON
BEST
For any Bluebagger, the Carlton jumper worn in the 1995 Grand Final complete with a special patch/Hyundai sponsor is the ultimate of the clubs (most recent) glory days.
WORST:
The once-off/infamous M&M jumper was worn in Round 3, 1997 to launch the blue colour of the chocolate.
On This Day 90s Brownlow!

13 Apr 97: Carlton model their ‘M&M Light Blue’ strip at Optus Oval against Adelaide where ruckman Matty Allan was adjudged best on ground by the men in white pic.twitter.com/taaK2noc2v
COLLINGWOOD
BEST:
The Magpies with the black stripes on white (now currently the away jumper) and SPICERS PAPER as the sponsor was a magnificent combination.
The cartoon Magpie jumper worn for the 1996 and 1997 Ansett Cup
ESSENDON
BEST:
Don’t fool yourself, Speed Kills.
Or the Nubrik variety – circa 1993
WORST:
You gotta hand it to the Dons, they didn’t opt for any pre-season or away jumpers during the 1990s
FREMANTLE:
BEST:
The old away jumper is back this weekend, however, the Dockers original purple number had a lot going on but is still a beauty.
WORST:
Who thought a 3D anchor was a good idea?
Freo did, and they are bringing it back by popular demand with sales already flying through the shelves.
Who are we to judge fashion?

FOOTSCRAY/WESTERN BULLDOGS
BEST:
Before they rebranded to the “Western Bulldogs”, Scott Wynd in the Footscray jumper in his Brownlow Medal-winning year of 1992 is truly a thing of beauty.
WORST
The Dogs away jumper worn around 1995-96 was a bit much.

FITZROY
BEST
RIP Roy Boys.
The Fitzroy jumper was always a thing of beauty.
…Even the pre-season jumper was alright.
GEELONG
BEST
The Cats jumper has always been great, but the sight of Ablett Snr in the blue and white hoops with 90s AFL/Ford logo does the job for us.
WORST
In 1998, the Cats got on the 3D trend with this away jumper that looked more like a Cartlon one.
It lasted one season.
HAWTHORN
BEST
The Hawks brown and gold is unique, but the Household finance sponsored jumper feat. the club logo worn in the 1991 Grand Final is easily Hawthorn’s best of the decade.
WORST
This jumper needs no introduction.
MELBOURNE
BEST:
With the mix of Tooheys Blue as the sponsor and the late Jim Stynes wearing a cap during a match, this takes the cake.
WORST:
The proposed “Melbourne Hawks” jumper. Thank goodness Don Scott ripped off the velcro Hawk
NORTH MELBOURNE
BEST
Both of the Roos home and away jumpers were rippers.
The best North home one was NZI Insurance

With the bouncing roo away jumper just as iconic as the Kangaroos from the 1990s

PORT ADELAIDE
BEST
Gavin Wanganeen in the long-sleeved spikes

WORST
The SBS jumper. Thank goodness they scrapped it. I know the Power won a flag wearing it in 2004, but it was a shocker.
RICHMOND
BEST
In 1995, the Tigers removed the sash from the back of the jumper adopted the yellow numbers, had TAC as a sponsor and it was a bloody ripper of a footy jumper.
They also made the Preliminary Final that year.
WORST:
The Tigers claw scratch jumper worn in the 1998-2003 pre-seasons
This is Richo wearing it in 2002, not the 1990s but you get the idea.

ST KILDA
BEST
We’d argue that the Saints didn’t have one bad jumper in the 1990s.
Be it Plugger in the traditional
Or the cross jumper which was the Saints home kit from 1997-2001.
Had they gone all the way in ’97 it would still be the St Kilda jumper today.

SYDNEY
BEST
The sight of Paul Kelly and Plugger in a 1996 Centenary/QBE Swans outfit is peak Sydney of the 1990s
WORST
This Ansett Cup outfit worn in 1997-98. WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON HERE???

WEST COAST
BEST
Any Eagles supporter will tell you that this jumper worn in the club’s 1992 and 1994 flags is the GOAT of West Coast jumpers complete with the big bold EAGLES and Hungry Jacks sponsorship.
WORST
Technically not worn in the 1990s, but it was designed and launched in 1999, the Eagles orange sun away jumper worn from 2000-2002 is an all-time Barry Crocker.

HONOURABLE MENTION…
STATE OF ORIGIN
BEST
All of the state jumpers are things of beauty.

WORST
Except for the Allies…
