It’s one of the most highly anticipated programs of the season, and 2021 Caulfield Cup Day has arrived!
Ten races will be run and won in Melbourne on Saturday, and the $5 Caulfield Cup has attracted a bumper field of stayers.

This is a rise in class for Eagles Crag, but he couldn’t have been more impressive at Benalla last time, and I am happy to stick with him.
The Fastnet Rock entire hasn’t run a bad race since arriving in Australia, winning three of four and finishing second on the other occasions, and he gapped them in the country last time.
Fitter third-up and slightly further out in trip, he can continue his rise through the grades.
I’m going to give Morioka another chance in the second on Caulfield Cup Day.
Morioka has shown glimpses of ability since making her debut, placing five times but remaining a seven-start maiden.
This is a decent drop in class from her last-start tenth in the Group 2 Edward Manifold, and she should enjoy plenty of improvement.
There is a case to be made for most of the horses in this Gothic Stakes field, and I think that Daily Bugle can return a competitive effort at a nice price ($10 at publish).
He was a good horse for the Griffths & de Kock yard during his debut prep, winning the Mornington Sires’ and finishing a credible sixth in the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ most notably.
He’s yet to strike in three starts back this time, but he did run a place in Group 2 company and will relish the drop in class from his run for tenth in the Neds Caulfield Guineas.
She has made just two appearances at the races so far, but Kapalua Sunset looks to have plenty of ability, and she can stamp herself as another serious Oaks chance for Danny O’Brien by winning the Ethereal Stakes.
The Tavistock filly finished third on debut at Geelong and enjoyed plenty of improvement into a dominant seven-length rout at Kyneton last time.
Fitter third-up and getting out to 2000m, she looks as though she’ll take a power of beating again.
The Neds Classic is always a highlight of Caulfield Cup Day and there is a case to be made for several gallopers in this year’s field, including Gundec.
Gundec has gone to another level since resuming this time, and finished second by a nose at Geelong when resuming, beating home Kapalua Sunset, before winning the Derby Trial at Flemington last month.
The 2000m looks as though it will be ideal and Craig Williams retains the ride.
I’m more than keen to stick with Zoutori third-up in the Neds Moonga Stakes.
He relishes racing down the straight and broke through for a maiden win at the highest level in this year’s Newmarket Handicap, and Zoutori has improved for each of his first two starts back this time, unlucky not to get there in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis most recently.
He has drawn an absolute peach in barrier 5 and the booking of Linda Meech is positive.
She hasn’t shown her best in two starts back this time, but this is certainly the easiest race for which Colette has been set, and I am more than happy to stick with her.
Last year’s Golden Eagle winner continued to race well in top company through the autumn, and she has so far finished sixth and fifth respectively in a pair of Group 1 races this time.
Fitter third-up and back to mares’ company in the Tristarc Stakes, she might not be offered a better opportunity to strike.
This shapes as one of the more open races on 2021 Caulfield Cup Day and at publish, we’re faced with $6 the field.
There is vale around every galloper and I think that a horse like How Womantic can and will return a big performance, at a nice price ($10 at publish).
She was a strong and consistent performer throughout her three-year-old campaign, and while How Womantic probably hasn’t recaptured that form in her subsequent preps, she has continued to return the Maher & Eustace yard plenty of good results.
She kept her best work for late when flashing into third in BM90 company at Sandown on Underwood Stakes Day, and I am confident that she’ll enjoy plenty of improvement for that effort.
Incentivise has been nothing short of outstanding since arriving in Melbourne and he is the runner to beat in this year’s Caulfield Cup.

There are several winning chances engaged in the Caulfield Sprint, and I think that a horse like Swats That looks to be big over at around the $23 mark.
She was unlucky not to record a Group 1 victory during her three-year-old season, but Swats That was a consistent performer at the highest level and has found form around some of the world’s best sprinters.
She needed the run when eighth in the Group 1 Moir Stakes when resuming, but she’ll enjoy improvement for the hit-out and the drop in the class.
