Caulfield Classic

Looking for early info on this year’s Caulfield Classic? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.

Ladbrokes Classic, Caulfield

Run over 2,000 metres, the Caulfield Classic – currently run as the Neds Classic due to sponsorship – is a Group 3 race taking place at Caulfield Racecourse as part of Caulfield Cup Day each October during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. With a $200,000 prize purse the event, registered as the Norman Robinson Stakes, attracts some of the season’s most promising three-year-old stayers.

The Caulfield Classic serves as a good lead up into the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) held at Flemington on the opening day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Polanski (2013) was the last horse to complete the Caulfield Classic – VRC Derby double during his three-year-old season.

Most recently the 2019 Victoria Derby champion Warning improved on a lead-up second in the Caulfield Classic to take out the tougher staying test at Flemington, while the 2020 third-placegetter in the Caulfield Classic Hit The Shot ran second next-up in the Victoria Derby quinella.

Which Horse Will Win The CAULFIELD Classic in 2021

The best way to pick which horse will win the Caulfield Classic in 2021 is to take into account the form, assess the barriers, consider the weight the horse will carry, among other factors.

Additional factors to consider when picking the Caulfield Classic winner include:

  • Hot Lead Up – Despite it’s 1600 metre race length, the Caulfield Guineas can serve as a good preview.
