Ridden by Blake Shinn, she controlled proceedings from the inside draw before kicking clear to score by 1¼ lengths over stablemate Icelady, giving the Maher stable a Group 1 quinella, while favourite Regal Ambition finished third. The victory continued an outstanding preparation for Saintly Dancer, who became the first filly since Amphitrite (2018) to complete the Edward Manifold Stakes-Thousand Guineas double, while also taking her earnings beyond $1.1 million. Maher Racing representative Jack Turnbull praised the Ballarat team for expertly managing the filly throughout her campaign and noted she continues to exceed expectations despite being a $100,000 purchase, while Shinn celebrated his first Group 1 win since returning from injury, crediting the filly’s toughness, perfect draw and ability to control the race from the front before proving too strong in the straight.

A great Group 1 race for three-year-old fillies, the Thousand Guineas is the female counterpart to the Caulfield Guineas, sharing the same age and race distance (1600m). Contested over a mile at Caulfield Racecourse each Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, the Thousand Guineas is run at set weights and offers $1.5 million in prize money.
It was previously contested on the Wednesday after the Caulfield Guineas, but in 2023 moved to after the Melbourne Cup Carnival and for two years took place in mid-November on Spring Champion Stakes Day. In 2025 the Thousand Guineas moved back to its October timeslot joining the Caulfield Cup Day card.
Sydney’s Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) serves as a key interstate lead-up into the Thousand Guineas. Global Glamour (2016) was the last filly to complete the interstate Flight Stakes – Thousand Guineas double.
The Thousand Guineas Prelude is the other key lead-up into the time-honoured Group 1 feature, but the double hasn’t been achieved since Irish Lights (2009).
