Jockey James McDonald added yet another elite level to his record CV with a patient ride on the star four-year-old who could now face a tough assignment against her undefeated stablemate Autumn Glow in the $5 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on April 11.

Run over 2,400 metres each autumn in late March at Rosehill Gardens, the Group 1 Tancred Stakes is a $1.5 million feature formerly known as The BMW.

If you’re looking for a nice lead up to this race, look no further than the Ranvet Stakestaking place two weeks earlier on Golden Slipper Day, has produced many recent Tancred Stakes winners including Sir Dragonet (4th in 2021) and Verry Elleegant (2nd) in 2020. The year before, Avilius (2019) did the double.

Aeliana (2026) was the last runner to complete the Ranvet – Tancred Stakes double. 

The winner of this race is exempt from the ballot of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes as well as the Sydney Cup.

Tancred Stakes Day 2025 was called off on Saturday due to heavy rainfall with all 10 races, including the Group 1 Tancred Stakes, postponed until Tuesday April 1.
