Run over 1,600 metres, the Stutt Stakes is a Group 2 race taking place at Moonee Valley Racecourse and is officially known as the Bill Stutt Stakes.
Open to three-year-old horses and run at set weights, the Stutt Stakes is one of the key support races held at The Valley on Manikato Stakes Night on a Friday in late September each Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
Named after Bill Stutt, the former chairman of the Moonee Valley Racing Club, this race was previously known as the Moonee Valley Stakes. Originally a Principal Race, this race was upgraded to Group 2 status in 1979.
This race serves as a reasonable lead up into the Caulfield Guineas. Whobegotyou (2008) followed by Griff (2023) are the last horses to do the Stutt Stakes – Caulfield Guineas double.
