Queensland Guineas
Looking for this year’s Queensland Guineas betting odds, field and tips? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
Run over 1,600 metres, the Queensland Guineas is a Group 2 race taking place at Eagle Farm Racecourse each Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. With an $350,000 prize purse, the event is open to three-year-old horses and was previously contested in June as part of the Stradbroke Handicap Day card.
After being cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Queensland Guineas was moved to an early position on the winter schedule from 2021 onwards and now serves as a potential lead-up into the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m).
Kovalica (2023) was the last three-year-old to complete the Queensland Guineas – Derby double.
Doomben Racecourse has hosted the Queensland Guineas twice in recent years due to track upgrades at Eagle Farm Racecourse.
For 2023 the Queensland Guineas runs on the same day as the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) in Adelaide.
The Queensland Guineas winner is also now exempt from ballot for the revamped Group 2 The Q22 (2200m), a WFA event offering $1.2 million and run on Stradbroke Handicap Day replacing the now defunct PJ O’Shea Stakes.
