Run over 1200m at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse, the Group 2 Victory Stakes is a popular sprint race held in late April or early May as part of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. A weight-for-age event, the Victory Stakes is a good early lead-up to the Group 1 winter sprints in the Sunshine State.
The Victory Stakes was first run in 1980 and is now worth $300,000 in prize money. The 2020 edition of the race however offered a reduced $175,000 in stakes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ran later in the carnival during May as a set weights plus penalties event to serve as a key Stradbroke lead-up.
Many class sprinters have won the Victory Stakes over the years including Rough Habit (1991) and Buffering (2011, 2013).
Libertad made the 2025 Victory Stakes form look elite, heading west to claim the Group 1 Winterbottom later that year, while third‑placed Golden Mile also kept the race strong by landing in the Kingsford Smith Cup trifecta next start.
