Chris Waller’s progressive Trapeze Artist filly Panova ($11) improved on her unplaced Vinery Stud Stakes run last start in Sydney to power home and beat the locals in South Australia’s 2026 Australasian Oaks results. Given a peach of a ride by James McDonald, Panova saluted by a length to hand the hoop is maiden Group 1 success in Adelaide. J-Mac took the filly out wide and came flying down the outside to hit the lead 200m out from the line and hold on to deny the luckless Mating Call who was held up for a run at a crucial stage with Paltrow Miss in third. Panova has since firmed from $11 into $7 as the now equal favourite for the Queensland Oaks on June 6.

Run over 2,000 metres, the Australasian Oaks is a Group 1 race taking place at Morphettville Racecourse in late April or early May each year as part of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival. It is held on Robert Sangster Stakes Day.
The weight-for-age feature offers $1 million in prize money as of 2024 and is open only to three-year-old fillies.
Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) is the key lead-up into the Australasian Oaks and Sopressa (2018) was the last filly to do the double.
Fillies may also contest the Australasian Oaks off a Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) run in Sydney, with Toffee Tongue (2nd in 2020) the last winner to come out of that race.
The Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) in Brisbane over the winter is good target for Australasian Oaks graduates. Egg Tart (2017) was the last filly to complete the Australasian Oaks – QLD Oaks double, while in 2022 Barb Raider ran second in both events.
The best fillies out of the Australasian Oaks may go on to take on the colts and geldings in the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m), a race the 2024 Australasian Oaks third placed Coco Sun went on to win.
Benagil made the 2025 Australasian Oaks form look the real deal, backing it up with a gritty third in the Queensland Oaks later that winter.
