Following a dominant debut at Caulfield, Unit Five proved he is the real deal by conquering the Gold Coast at only his second outing. With Maher now a three-time winner of the race, all eyes turn to the autumn where this “blue-blooded” youngster looks the one to beat.

The Magic Millions 2YO Classic is a $3 million, Restricted Listed feature race held at the Gold Coast Racecourse in Queensland each January.
Magic Millions Day on the Gold Coast is one of the country’s richest race days offering around $12.5 million in prize money across the card, which is restricted mainly to Magic Millions graduates and horses that won a ballot exemption into a race via one of the special lead-up events.
Open to two-year-old Magic Millions graduates, the Magic Millions 2YO Classic is contested over 1200m at set weights with the winner taking home over $1.7 million in prize money.
Horses that perform well in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic often head south to Melbourne during the autumn to target the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield and Sydney for April’s Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m). Capitalist (2016) was the last two-year-old to complete the lucrative Magic Millions 2YO Classic – Golden Slipper double.
More recently the 2022 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winning filly Coolangatta ran third in that year’s Golden Slipper results before a win in the spring’s Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) further franking the form.
