Gloaming Stakes, Rosehill Racecourse

Looking for info on this year’s Gloaming Stakes? The expert tipsters at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.

Run over 1,800 metres, the Gloaming Stakes is a Group 3 race taking place at Rosehill Racecourse. With a $200,000 prize purse, it attracts lots of mid distance runners, including some interstate and international entrants.

This race has been run over several distances. For its first 22 years it was run at 1900 metres. In 2001, it was run at 1750 metres, followed by 1900 in 2002. Ever since 2003, it has been run at 1800 metres.

Starting out as a Principal Race, it then progressed to Group 2 status in 1979, followed by Group 3 in 2005.

Horses that do well in this race have been known to go onto success in the Stan Fox Stakes and the Spring Champion Stakes

The Group 1 VRC Derby (2500m) at Flemington is also a potential target for the beset horses out of the Gloaming Stakes. In 2017 Ace High completed the Gloaming Stakes – Spring Champion Stakes – VRC Derby treble.

The last horse to win the Gloaming Stakes – Spring Champion Stakes double was Shadow Hero (2019).
