Occurring in either early December or late November, the George Moore Stakes is a big part of the Queensland summer racing calendar. Originally launched as a Group 3 race, it was downgraded to a listed race from 1983-2000, before regaining group status from 2001 until present.
The George Moore Stakes, held at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse, is a 1200m sprint run under quality handicap conditions.
The race can serve as a nice lead-up into the Group 2 $2 million The Ingham Stakes (1600m) – formerly the Villiers Stakes – conducted over the Randwick mile the following weekend.
