Cox Plate 2019
Looking for early information on this year’s Cox Plate? The expert tipsters at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
Run at the unique distance of 2040 metres, The Cox Plate boasts a bulging $5,000,000 prize purse, and is seen as the proving ground for the country’s finest middle distance horses.
There are quite a lot of races in Australia (and worldwide) which enable a horse to be exempt from the Cox Plate ballot, and therefore able to take a starting position in the race. These races include: The Australian Cup, AJC Australian Derby, John F Feehan Stakes, Caulfield Guineas, Yalumba Stakes, Queen Elizabeth Cup (Hong Kong), Singapore International (Singapore), King George VI (UK), Queen Elizabeth Stakes (UK), Arlington Million (USA), Grosser Bugatti Preis (Germany) and the Irish Champion Stakes (Ireland). Additionally, there is a Cox Plate Qualifier Day which takes place in early September, with the winner of the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes earns a spot in that year’s Cox Plate.
The 2000 metre Caulfield Stakes serve as a good lead in race for the Cox Plate.
