The official 2026 Coolmore Classic results will be available below once the race takes place on Saturday, March 14, 2026. 

A more conservative sit-and-wait style of ride from the maestro James McDonald saw Chris Waller’s always honest four-year-old Snitzel mare Lazzura ($5) deservingly breakthrough for her maiden Group 1 success in the 2026 Coolmore Classic results at Rosehill. Allowed to settle back off pace from the gate (8), the up-and-comer delivered when asked, coming from well off them at the top of the straight to unleash a powerful late burst right down the outside, extend and hit the line 0.32 lengths clear of Arctic Glamour who came with a huge run up the middle while Vivy Air ran third. It was Waller’s fourth straight Coolmore Classic win, and the result sees McDonald sit one Group 1 win off the G.O.A.T Damien Oliver’s all-time record. Lazzura is likely to head to Randwick on April 11 for the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes and she’s firmed in from $26 to $11 to improve on her fourth in the race last year and win another Sydney elite level.

Run over 1,500 metres every March at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, the Coolmore Classic is a Group 1 race, held during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. 

Offering $1,000,000 in prize money as of 2024, the quality handicap clash is open only to fillies and mares.

The Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) and the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) make nice lead-up races into the Coolmore Classic. 

Zougotcha (2024) was the last to do the Millie Fox – Coolmore Classic race double.

Lazzura (2nd in 2026) was the last Coolmore Classic winner to come via the Millie Fox Stakes.

Lady Shenandoah (2025) was the last to do the Surround Stakes – Coolmore Classic double.

The best out of the race may back-up in the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1600m) – recently run as the Coolmore Legacy Stakes – at Randwick and Con Te Partiro (2020) followed by Zougotcha (2024) are the latest to do the double.

Many star, female gallopers have won the Coolmore Classic since the race was first contested in 1973 including dual hero Sunline (2000, 2002) and Typhoon Tracy (2009).

The Coolmore Classic winner is exempt from ballot for the Doncaster Mile and Queen Of The Turf Stakes races held at Randwick in April.

Since 2003 only four Coolmore Classic favourites have saluted for the punters, most recently Aloha (2011), Zougotcha ($3.30 in 2024) and Lady Shenandoah ($2.60 in 2025).

The Coolmore Classic 2026 final field features a smart line-up of quality mares including the Chris Waller-trained Lazzura coming off a second fresh in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes, Michael Freedman’s Millie Fox winner Cinsault chasing her fourth win on the trot, her four-year-old stablemate Manaal last seen finishing runner-up in the Group 2 Guy Walter, and the Gary Portelli-trained winner of that same key lead-up Verona Rose.
