Caulfield Autumn Classic

Looking for early info on this year’s Caulfield Autumn Classic? The tipsters at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.

Caulfield Autumn Classic, Caulfield Racecourse

Run over 1,800 metres each year in February, the Caulfield Autumn Classic is a Group 2 race, during the Autumn carnival. With a two hundred thousand dollar prize purse, it’s one of the biggest races for three year olds during the carnival.

This race serves a nice little lead in to the 2000 metre Australian Cup, which takes place a few weeks later.

The status of this race has changed quite a few times. For the first 21 years, it was run as a principal race, followed by being upgraded to a listed race for the next 9. It was then made Group three from 1989 to 1993, and has been Group 2 for the last 24.

Which Horse Will Win The Caulfield Autumn Classic

The best way to pick who will win this race is to take into account the form, assess the barriers, consider the weight the horse will carry, among other factors.

Additional factors to take into considerations are as follows:

  • Mile long Stayers – This race favours those who perform well for at least a mile. Anything under that, and they’re unlikely to get a place.
  • Potential For Upset – 2018’s race saw Valiant Sprint take first place from a $16 race day odds, so don’t rule out making an unconventional bet.
  • Three year old friendly – Last year’s best are ineligible, so look to the horses who have had a good year as two year old last year, or those who have had a good Autumn run as three year old.
