Blue Sapphire Stakes
Looking for this year’s Blue Sapphire Stakes betting odds, field and tips? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
Run over 1,400 metres having been increased from 1,200m ahead of the 2023 edition, the Blue Sapphire Stakes is a Group 3 race taking place at Caulfield Racecourse on Thousand Guineas Day now held at the end of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
The middle-distance sprint race for three-year-olds has moved to mid to late November as has the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) for the fillies ahead of the 2023 race.
Both events now take place after the Melbourne Cup Carnival on the new-look Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day card in Melbourne.
Starting out as a Listed Race, this race has held Group 3 status since 2016 and is contested at set weights.
Horses that do well in this race previously continued onto Flemington’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on Derby Day, with Flying Artie (2016) the last to do the Blue Sapphire – Coolmore Stud Stakes double.
As of 2023 the Blue Sapphire Stakes now runs after the Coolmore and offers $500,000.
