The Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes is a set weights race for three-year-old fillies contested over 1400m at Royal Randwick Racecourse in mid-September.
Held as part of The Shorts Day card in Sydney, the Tea Rose Stakes offers $300,000 in prize money and is a key lead-up into the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) held back at the track over a mile a fortnight later. Zougotcha (2022) was the last filly to complete the Tea Rose Stakes – Flight Stakes double.
The Flight Stakes is the grand final of Sydney’s Princess Series, of which the Tea Rose Stakes is the third leg following on from the Silver Shadow Stakes and Furious Stakes.
In 2020 Dame Giselle made it a hat-trick of wins in the series taking out the Silver Shadow – Furious Stakes – Tea Rose triple.
The 2023 Flight Stakes winner also came via the Tea Rose Stakes with Tropical Squall improving on her lead-up third in the Group 2.
In 2025 Apocalyptic completed the Furious Stakes – Tea Rose Stakes double.

Apocalyptic ($3) was huge over the final 100m racing away to take out the 2025 Tea Rose Stakes results and go back-to-back after taking out the Furious Stakes fresh. Michael Freedman’s filly is now the $2 favourite for the upcoming Group 1 Flight Stakes where jockey Tommy Berry, who never panicked in the Tea Rose despite sitting three wide for much of the race, believes she’ll see out the mile and be hard to beat.
