La Posette was the inaugural Tattersall’s Tiara winner back in 1989 when the race ran as the Winter Stakes (1989-2011).
Notable Winter Stakes / Tattersall’s Tiara winners include subsequent Cox Plate winner Dane Ripper (1997), dual champ Bonanova (1999-2000), the Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer (2013), Srikandi (2015), and Tofane (2021) who is the latest mare to complete the Stradbroke Handicap – Tatt’s Tiara double.
The 2022 Tattersall’s Tiara winner Startantes defeated the older mares in an eye-catching last-to-first upset at $11 thanks to a brilliant ride by jockey Jason Collett aboard the Rob Heathcote-trained filly.
The Tattersall’s Tiara 2023 winner was the local Chris Munce-trained mare Palaisipan ($14) who scored an upset Group 1 victory in her racing swansong.
Note: There was no 2020 Tattersall’s Tiara due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2024 Tattersall’s Tiara winner was the Ciaron Maher-trained favourite Bella Nipotina ($2F) who capped off a big winter in Brisbane having previously taken out the Doomben 10,000 before seconds in both the Kingsford Smith Cup and Stradbroke. She would go on to win the world’s richest turf race – the Group 1 $20,000,000 The Everest – in Sydney that spring.
The 2025 Tattersall’s Tiara winner was five-year-old Sebring mare Tashi ($7.50) for trainer Peter Snowden with jockey Tom Sherry aboard on 57kg from barrier 9 to win by 1.94 lengths in a time of 1:21.81.
