The official 2026 Skyline Stakes results will be available below once the race takes place on Saturday, February 28, 2026. 

Chris Waller’s progressive Snitzel colt Campione D’Italia ($41) has earned a ballot free ride into the Golden Slipper field on March 21 after his shock victory in the 2026 Skyline Stakes results. Ridden second-up by Tommy Berry, the youngster improved notably on his dead last on debut to make up lots of late ground and narrowly deny his previously unraced stablemate Central Europe in a blanket finish where many of the better fancied finished close with excuses. He has firmed in from $101 to $21 in futures Slipper betting.

Run over 1,200 metres in late February or early March, the Skyline Stakes is a Group 2 race, held during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. With a $300,000 prize purse as of 2024, it attracts a lot of up and coming, two-year-old colts and geldings.

By winning this race, a horse gains automatic entry into the Golden Slipper Stakes. Despite the Skyline Stakes winner being exempt from ballot in the world’s richest race for juveniles, the Skyline Stakes – Golden Slipper double hasn’t been completed since Dance Hero (2004). 

Plenty of Skyline Stakes winners have gone on to run well in the Golden Slipper and also the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) however, including in 2020 when Mamaragan took out the Group 2 in an upset on debut and then ran third in the two subsequent Group 1 features that autumn.

Looking further ahead, the Skyline Stakes has served as a good guide to placegetters in both the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m), races the 2021 Skyline runner-up Hilal also ran second in. That year, Captivant improved on a Skyline Stakes third to win the Champagne Stakes.

In 2023 the Golden Slipper winner Shinzo came via a lead-up second in the Skyline Stakes results.

In 2024 the Skyline Stakes winner Storm Boy ran third in the Golden Slipper results next start.

Skyline Stakes Race Day 2026

The 2026 Skyline Stakes takes place on Verry Elleegant Stakes Day 2026 at Royal Randwick on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The Group 1 $1,000,000 Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) is the marquee event on the program that also features the running of the:

• Group 1 $750,000 Surround Stakes (1400m),
• Group 2 $300,000 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m),
• Group 2 $300,000 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m), and the
• Group 3 $250,000 Liverpool City Cup (1300m).
