The Golden Slipper on March 21 is being considered for Annabel & Rob Archibald’s exciting filly Chayan ($3.10) who atoned for a luckless Blue Diamond performance when racing away late to dominate Sydney’s 2026 Reisling Stakes results on Saturday. James McDonald jumped aboard the progressive daughter of I Am Invincible and rated her ideally settling off speed before flashing home down the outside and drawing away to win by nearly three lengths.

The Reisling Stakes, formerly known as the Reisling Slipper Trial, is a Group 2 race for two-year-old fillies run and won at Randwick Racecourse in early March each year as part of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

A set weights event contested over 1200m and offering $300,000, the Reisling Stakes also offers the winner a ballot exemption into the coveted $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) later that month at Rosehill Gardens.

It is held on the same day as the colts’ and geldings’ equivalent Slipper lead-up, the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) and first took place in 1973 and is named after the 1965 Golden Slipper winning filly Reisling.

To date seven fillies have completed the Reisling Stakes – Golden Slipper Stakes double with Hartshill (1974), Burst (1992), Merlene (1996), Belle Du Jour (2000), Polar Express (2003), Overreach (2013), and most recently Estijaab (2018).

Many fillies out of the Reisling Stakes may also target that autumn’s Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) during ‘The Championships’ at Randwick. The Reisling Stakes – ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes double has been completed four times: Shaybisc (1980), Burst (1992), Merlene (1996), and Fashions Afield (2005).

The 2025 Reisling Stakes proved a serious form race, with winner Tempted running third in the Golden Slipper at her next start before taking out the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes. She kept the momentum rolling into spring, winning the Group 2 Run to the Rose, finishing third in the Group 1 Golden Rose, and producing a huge run for second in the $20 million The Everest.

The race also unearthed the 2025 Golden Slipper winner, with Marhoona improving off her Reisling second to claim the world’s richest two‑year‑old race.

Reisling Stakes Race Day 2026

The 2026 Reisling Stakes takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2026 as part of 2026 Randwick Guineas Day. There are two Group 1 races on the card with the running of the Group 1 $1 million Randwick Guineas (1600m) for three-year-olds and the Group 1 $750,000 Canterbury Stakes (1300m). Supporting the two Group 1 races are the:

• Group 2 $500,000 Challenge Stakes (1000m),
• Group 2 $300,000 Todman Stakes (1200m),
• Group 3 $250,000 Wenona Girl Quality (1600m), and the
• Group 3 $250,000 Aspirational Quality (1600m).
