railway stakes 2025 Results

The official 2025 Railway Stakes results will be available below once the race takes place on Saturday November 22, 2025.

  1. #12 Watch Me Rock
  2. #1 Western Empire
  3. #11 Sentimental Hero

Watch Me Rock ($3.30F) stormed home to salute for the punters in the 2025 Railway Stakes results at Ascot on Saturday, giving Grant & Alana Williams their sixth victory in the famous mile and jockey William Pike his sixth triumph in the race. The five-year-old Awesome Rock gelding justified his favouritism, producing a powerful finish to defeat stablemate veteran stablemate Western Empire in a Williams-trained quinella. The win marked the stable’s first Group 1 success since splitting with long-time owner Bob Peters, while Pike added another jewel to his remarkable Railway record. Settled fourth at the top of the straight, Watch Me Rock worked his way to the front 200m out from the line before drawing clear for his three-quarter length win which was a Group 1 first for his sire. Watch Me Rock’s Railway triumph confirmed his elite status and set up a tantalising decision for Pike, who must now choose between sticking with the champ or partnering unbeaten WA Guineas hero King Of Light in the upcoming $1.5 million Northerly Stakes.

Railway Stakes
The Railway Stakes is the first of three Group 1 Perth Summer Racing Carnival features taking place at Ascot Racecourse in November each year.

Offering $1.5 million in prize money as of 2022, the handicap event is run over the mile (1600m) and attracts the best of both the local and interstate milers chasing an end of year success.

The Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) is the key lead-up race into the Railway Stakes field and the last horse to do the double in the same year was Belle Bizarre (2006). More recently the champion Luckygray won the 2012 Lee Steere Stakes between his dual Railway Stakes wins in 2011 and 2013.

The Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m) held just a week prior is another good lead-up that has produced a number of Railway Stakes winners over the years.

One of the biggest honours in Western Australian racing is to win the Railway Stakes – Northerly Stakes double, with both races sporting $1.5 million prize purses and the latter contest over 1800m. Sniper’s Bullet (2009) was the last horse to win both events in the same season.

In 2020 the Railway Stakes winner Inspirational Girl went on to run a next-up second in that year’s Northerly Stakes (then Kingston Town Classic) results, as did the four-year-old Western Empire in 2021.

The brand new $1.5 million Group 3 The Gold Rush (1400m) held in mid-December for the first time in 2022 is also now a likely target for Railway Stakes horses each summer. In 2022 dual Railway Stakes runner-up Comfort Me franked the form running third in the inaugural The Gold Rush trifecta.

The Railway Stakes form is over franked over the following autumn by any horses heading east including when the 2019 winner Regal Power went Melbourne and won the then $5 million All-Star Mile in 2020.

The 2023 Northerly Stakes winner Dom To Shoot came via a third in that summer’s Railway Stakes results.
