Looking for this year’s C.F. Orr Stakes betting odds, tips and form guide? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.

Run over 1,400 metres in mid-November having recently been moved from its earlier February timeslot, the C.F. Orr Stakes is now the final Group 1 race of the spring and Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival in Australia.
The feature is currently run at Caulfield Racecourse and has held elite level status since 1993.
Previously it made a key lead-up into the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) back at the same track and distance on Blue Diamond Stakes Day. Black Heart Bart (2017) and Mr Brightside (2024) were the latest horses to complete the C.F. Orr – Futurity Stakes double before the Orr was moved from the autumn to the spring ahead of the official second 2025 edition.
A weight-for-age event, the C.F. Orr Stakes offers now also offers an increased $1 million in total prize money.
It has been won by a host of very good horses since its inauguration in 1925 including Heroic (1927), Flight (1946), Lord (1959-60), Tobin Bronze (1967), triple hero Manikato (1979-81), fellow three-time winner Vo Rogue (1988-90), Redoute’s Choice (2000), and the super sprinter Black Caviar (2012).
In 2023 the CF Orr Stakes was won on protest by Jacquinot who had won the previous spring’s Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).
The 2024 CF Orr Stakes winner was the odds-on favourite Mr Brightside, reigning All-Star Mile champion, who went on to run second in that year’s All-Star Mile results.
Mr Brightside returned in the autumn edition of the 2025 CF Orr Stakes only to be run down late in a thriller to finish a close second to Another Wil.
The event was part of a huge Caulfield spring calendar reshuffle and will now take place in mid-November following Flemington’s iconic Melbourne Cup Carnival.
As such, there will officially be two 2025 editions of the event with the autumn race won by Another Wil and the spring race set to take place on November 15.
