Looking for this year’s Cameron Handicap betting odds, tips and field guide? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.

2026 Cameron Handicap Odds

Cameron Handicap odds 2026 are already live at Neds as punters target one of Newcastle’s key spring mile races, with early markets reacting to sharp trial performers, proven metro milers, and runners building towards major Sydney features. The Cameron Handicap betting 2026 markets are traditionally competitive, and this year’s futures board is no exception, with strong interest in Epsom‑bound horses, stablemates on upward form cycles, and runners boasting strong sectionals at 1400–1600m. As lead‑up races unfold and trainers lock in their spring plans, expect notable market movement as punters chase early value and identify runners primed to peak at the Newcastle carnival. Securing the right position in the Cameron Handicap odds 2026 is a smart play for early bettors looking to stay ahead of the pack.

The Cameron Handicap is a 1500m Group 3 handicap event run and won in mid-September during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

The race has taken place since 1950 and takes place on Newcastle Gold Cup Day at Broadmeadow Racecourse.

The Cameron Handicap has been won by some nice types over the years including Australian 2YO Triple Crown champion Luskin Star (1977), Hooked (2014), and the latest two-time champion Rock (2019-2020).

Each spring the Cameron Handicap winner earns a ballot exemption into the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m). Excellerator (2002) was the last horse to complete the Cameron Handicap – Epsom Handicap double.

The 2024 Cameron Handicap winner Here To Shock franked the form with a next-up win in the $1.5 million Alan Brown Stakes. He would also travel across the Tasman the following autumn to win the 2025 Group 1 BCD Group Sprint in New Zealand before a Group 1 Canterbury Stakes second back in Sydney.

The first two horses in the Cameron Handicap 2026 results also earn eligibility for the $3 million The Big Dance race held at Randwick in Sydney on the same day Flemington hosts the iconic Melbourne Cup.

Headley Grange turned the 2025 Cameron Handicap into a genuine spring form reference, backing it up with a sharp win in the Alan Brown Stakes before returning the next winter to score in Brisbane’s Group 1 Kingsford‑Smith Cup. The strength of the race was reinforced by Vivy Air, who ran second in The Big Dance on Cup Day and then claimed the $2 million Five Diamonds, making the Cameron one of the most reliable early‑spring guides for Neds punters.

Which Horse Will Win the Cameron Handicap in 2026

The best way to pick which horse will win the Cameron Handicap in 2026 is to take into account the lead-up spring racing form, assess the barriers and consider the weight each horse will carry.

Some of the key Cameron Handicap form facts to consider include:

  • Sydney Lead-Ups: Runners coming via a lead-up run in New South Wales do well in the Cameron Handicap with key lead-up races including Grafton’s Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) in July that offers the winner a Cameron Handicap ballot exemption and the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) a fortnight before the race. Democracy Manifest (10th in 2023) was the last Tramway Stakes graduate to win the Cameron Handicap.
  • Boys’ Club: The last Cameron Handicap winning mare to beat home the boys was Raspberries (2011).
  • Older Runners: The sole three-year-old Cameron Handicap winner to date was Luskin Star back in 1977.

Cameron Handicap Favourites 2026

Favourites in Cameron Handicap 2026 betting include the flying Chris Waller-trained four-year-old Mr Miller chasing a hat-trick and the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Fully Lit presenting fit third-up.
