Scamanda (1976) was the inaugural AJ Moir Stakes winner.

Imperatriz (2023) was the last AJ Moir Stakes winning mare.

She Will Reign (2017) was the first three-year-old filly to win the AJ Moir Stakes since Virage De Fortune (2005).

Multiple AJ Moir Stakes winners: The Judge (1978-79), With Me (1990-91), Black Caviar (2010-11), and Buffering (2012, 2014, 2015).

Buffering is the race’s sole three-time champion winning in 2012 before returning for back-to-back victories in 2014 and 2015.

Prior to him, the other most recent multiple champion and one of the race’s most famous winners was the undefeated mare Black Caviar who won in 2010 and 2011.

Imperatriz (2023) holds the current AJ Moir Stakes time record winning in 56.47 seconds.

One of the other more famous AJ Moir Stakes winners is Manikato who at the time became just the second horse in Australia to surpass $1 million in stakes after his 1982 victory.

The 2019 AJ Moir Stakes winner Nature Strip would go on to win a host of other top line races including the 2021 The Everest and the 2022 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in the UK.

The 2022 Moir Stakes winner Coolangatta beat home her stablemate Bella Nipotina to become the first three-year-old filly to take out the event since She Will Reign (2017).

The 2023 Moir Stakes winner Imperatriz ($1.65F) saluted as the odds-on favourite storming over the top of her rivals late to make it three-from-three at the Moonee Valley track while enjoying her sixth Group 1 success.

The 2024 Moir Stakes winner Mornington Glory ($9) was excellent at his pet track and distance making it three straight 1000m wins at Moonee Valley after leading all-the-way from barrier one to hand trainer Gavin Bedggood his first Group 1 victory.

The 2025 Moir Stakes winner was seven-year-old Snitzel gelding Baraqiel ($6) for trainers Leon & Troy Corstens & Will Larkin with jockey Ben Allen aboard on 58.5kg from barrier 8 to win by 0.46 lengths on a Good (4) track in a time of 0:57.82.

The 2026 Moir Stakes winner is TBC and will be known when the opening Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival Group 1 event takes place at Sandown-Hillside on Saturday September 5.
