We have Flight Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 1 1600m race at Randwick on Saturday.
Flight Stakes odds don’t have much between the top three in the market, so it should be a close finish for the 3YO fillies.
It often pays to follow a well-backed runner trained by John Sargent, and Global Goal has certainly been putting the writing on the wall in recent starts.
She finished off stylishly to run third last time out, clocking slick sectionals in the process, and looks the runner most likely to be finishing strongest down the outside. The only concern is just how much ground she’ll need to make up.
Sargent is one of Australia’s leading trainers of three-year-old fillies and has a knack for timing their runs to perfection. The step up to a mile is another positive, and at $3.10, her price could firm significantly and see her start as favourite on race day.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see plenty of support for her on Saturday, and she shapes as the runner to beat.

| Third-up today. First-up 3rd of 10 in the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes at this track on August 22 over 1200m, on a slow track; 3.5 len behind Pembrey carrying 55kg at $14. Last start 3rd of 9 in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes at this track on September 19 over 1400m, 1.1 len behind Bangkok Hottie with 56kg at $7.50. Terrific chance to continue the strong form. | |||
Our Flight Stakes predictions include Striking Alibi, and she is a runner who should appreciate rising to 1600m more than most.
The 3YO filly by Hanseatic did her racing in Perth before coming to the Chris Waller stable, and after placing at her last two starts, she looks ready to run a big race at the top level.
She flashed home late for second behind Bangkok Hottie last start, and although Global Goal’s splits were slightly better, Striking Alibi didn’t have all favours when trying to pick a path through the field.
Barrier 2 with James McDonald riding is ideal, and she could pay off loyal punters with a win.

| Third-up today. Resuming ran on from midfield; 3rd of 10 in the G2 Furious Stakes at this track on September 5 over 1200m, 0.8 len behind Bangkok Hottie carrying 56kg at $21. Last start 2nd of 9 in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes at this track on September 19 over 1400m, 0.7 len behind Bangkok Hottie with 56kg at $2.70. Has been behind the eight ball all prep and set to deliver over the mile. | |||
A runner at double-figure odds who shouldn’t be overlooked is Queen’s Gamble. She finished only sixth behind Bangkok Hottie last start, but that run should have her spot-on for this, with plenty of improvement expected second-up.
She has taken a different path to most of her rivals, with the majority of her winning form coming in midweek company. However, she was impressive in both victories and looks like a mare with a big-race win in her future.
This could be her best opportunity yet to claim a Group 1, and while she is priced in the double figures, she has enough ability to cause an upset in the Flight Stakes.

| Last start 6th of 9 in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes at this track on September 19 over 1400m, 4 len behind Bangkok Hottie carrying 56kg at $13. The start before that won by 3.5 len in a F&M Bm72 at Warwick Farm on September 2 over 1400m defeating Samarelle carrying 56kg at $2.25. Kept up to the mark with a tick over trial and place best. | |||
Punters get value odds with our Flight Stakes SRM, which includes our three selected runners.
We have Global Goal Top 2, Striking Alibi Top 2, and Queen’s Gamble Top 4, which pays $5.75 for our three-runner SRM.
The same-race multi hinges on Global Goal and Striking Alibi running the quinella, but they’re the best horses in the race. Queen’s Gamble could run into the money, which gives the multi a nice boost.
