In 2021 Lunar Fox (300/1) became the longest-priced Australian Guineas winner in history.
Observer (2026) became the latest horse to win the Australian Guineas as the reigning VRC Derby champion.
The 2022 Australian Guineas winner Hitotsu also made history as the race’s maiden first-up winner having last been seen taking out the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) the spring prior. Hitotsu went on to frank the form with a next-up victory in Sydney’s Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) that autumn.
The Australian Guineas 2023 winner was Legarto ($6.50) who became just the sixth filly in history to beat home the boys in the Flemington feature after the New Zealand-trained Group 1 champ charged late to score an upset victory.
The 2024 Australian Guineas winner was the Ciaron Maher-trained Southport Tycoon ($19) with the forgotten colt in the race showing true grit to charge home off a beautiful Jamie Kah ride and post a notable upset on way to a potential run in the All-Star Mile.
The 2025 Australian Guineas winner was the spring’s Caulfield Guineas runner-up Feroce ($14) with the Dominic Sutton trained Super Seth gelding charging home down the outside late to extend and win by three quarters of a length in an impressive upset.
The 2026 Australian Guineas winner was three-year-old Ghaiyyath colt Observer at $1.85 favouritism for trainer Ciaron Maher with jockey Ethan Brown aboard on 57kg from barrier 6 to win by 0.5 lengths on a Good (4) track in a time of 1:35.70.
