- #13 Shraddha
- #6 I’m Admired
- #11 She’s Supreme
Michael Freedman’s promising Ole Kirk filly Shraddha ($5EF) stamped herself as a leading autumn two-year-old prospect with an impressive debut victory in the 2026 Gimcrack Stakes results at Randwick on Saturday. Ridden patiently by Tommy Berry, the talented youngster settled behind the speed before bursting through a narrow gap in the straight and charging clear to score by 2½ lengths over roughie I’m Admired, with She’s Supreme a long neck away in third. Stopping the clock at 59.66 seconds, Shraddha showcased the sharp turn of foot that had impressed Freedman throughout her preparation, overcoming her inexperience to win with authority. Both trainer and jockey praised the filly’s considerable upside, with Berry noting she had her ears pricked through the run to the line, while Freedman indicated a spell and a focus on the autumn carnival could be on the cards as she continues her rise through the juvenile ranks.

The Gimcrack Stakes is a Group 3 race contested over 1000m at Royal Randwick in late September or early October as part of the bumper Epsom Handicap Day card during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. Open only to two-year-old fillies, the Gimcrack Stakes is run at set weights and offers $250,000 in prize money.
Many young fillies are on debut in the Gimcrack Stakes field, which can serve as a nice lead-up into bigger events such as the following January’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
In 2019, Stellar Pauline ran second in the Gimcrack Stakes and also placed second in the 2020 Magic Millions Classic, while the 2022 Gimcrack Stakes winner Platinum Jubilee also was runner-up in the following summer’s Magic Millions Classic results.
The 2023 Gimcrack Stakes winner Manaal franked the form the following autumn with a host of good runs including her Group 1 Inglis Sires’ victory in 2024.
O’Ole (2nd in the 2024 Gimcrack) was the last out of the race to go on and win the following summer’s $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in 2025.

Which Horse Will Win the Gimcrack Stakes in 2026?
The best way to pick which horse will win the Gimcrack Stakes is to look at their lead-up form, check any previous Black-Type experience and consider their record at the track.
Additional factors to consider when picking the Gimcrack Stakes winner include:
- Young Guns – With a field made up entirely of two-year-old fillies, a lot of the runners are as yet unproven. Look out for a filly that has recently won or gotten a place in a black-type event.
- Top Trainers – From 2014-21 trainer John O’Shea prepared three Gimcrack Stakes winners, while Peter & Paul Snowden trained two in that time so watching for fillies from the top stables can prove profitable.
