We have Toorak Handicap tips and predictions for the Group 1 1600m race at Caulfield on Saturday.
Toorak Handicap odds have an even betting field available, where every runner get its chance to win.
EVAPORTE (2) looks like the value runner at the top of the market, and he should give punters a sight.
The Hayes-trained gelding has plenty of quality form around this level and gets an ideal draw in barrier two. Blake Shinn takes the ride, which gives him every chance to settle in the first few pairs and get a soft run throughout.
The 58kg is the obvious challenge but Evaporate has already shown he can handle weight and compete against quality opposition. The Soft 6 conditions should also give him a genuine chance to show his best, particularly if the track favours runners who can race prominently.
At $9.00 (at time of publish), we’re happy to take the price. He has the class to beat this field, so include him in Toorak Handicap predictions.

| Last start sat on the pace before fading 9th of 16 in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at this track on September 19 over 1400m, 4 len behind Angel Capital with 56.5kg at $7. The start before that won by 1.75 len in a So You Think at Sandown-Hillside on September 5 over 1500m on a rain affected track defeating Pinstriped with 58.5kg at $2.05. Has excuses latest and is much better suited to a mile from this draw. | |||
CHANGING COLOURS (8)Â is the runner we want to include at each-way odds.
The 4YO has been flying this preparation and has built an impressive winning run of four straight. She now steps into Group 1 company, but she gets just 52kg and has drawn barrier 8, so everything points towards a good run.
That weight advantage could prove decisive in a handicap like this. Luke Cartwright also knows her well, and if he can settle her comfortably before making his move, she should get her chance to finish over the top.
It’s a significant rise in grade, but she’s the runner on the up, and we expect a good effort, so include her in Toorak Handicap tips.

| On a four run winning streak. At the latest run came from midfield and won by 1.0 len in the G2 Stocks Stakes at this track on September 27 over 1600m defeating Sass Appeal carrying 55kg at $3.80. Before that came from midfield and won by 1.3 len in a Bm84 at Sandown-Hillside on September 9 over 1600m on a soft track defeating Flying Valley with 59.5kg at $2.10. Keeps raising the bar and looks dangerous with 52kg. | |||
PONDALOWIE (3) comes into the Toorak Handicap after breaking through for a strong win and gets just 52kg on her back.
Her win last time out was truly incredible, and if she can show that turn-of-foot again on Saturday, she could take some beating.
The mare still has plenty to prove at Group 1 level, but the weight and draw make her interesting in a race where several of the better-fancied runners are carrying significantly more weight.
She doesn’t need to reproduce the best performance of her career to run into the placings. If she gets the right trip in transit, she could finish over the top of them and add value to exotics at big odds.
| 14. Pondalowie (3) J: Rachel King 52kg 35×81 T: Emma-Lee & David Browne | |||
| Third-up today and won third-up previously. First-up got back early 8th of 12 in the G3 Courtza (WW Cockram) Stakes at this track on August 29 over 1200m, slow going 6 len behind Custom with 56kg at $21. Second run from a spell ran on strongly from last on the turn and won by a nose in the G2 Let’s Elope Stakes at Flemington on September 12 over 1400m defeating Too Darn Discreet carrying 55kg at $51. Shock winner latest but inclined to risk this time. | |||
Punters get value odds with our Toorak Handicap SRM, which includes our three selected runners.
- Top 3 – No 1 Evaporate
- Top 4 – No. 13 Changing Colours
- Top 5 – No. 14 PondalowieÂ
We have Evaporate Top 3, Changing Colours Top 4, and Pondalowie Top 5, which pays $41.00 for our three-runner SRM.
There is a lot of value with our same-race multi, and although they’re not easy to land in a big field, the odds make it worth the risk. Pondalowie Top 5 adds a lot of value to our picks, and if she runs well, the payouts could be big.
