We have Premiere Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 2 1200m race at Randwick on Saturday.
Premiere Stakes odds have Tempted as the short favourite to win the main lead-up race to The Everest in two weeks’ time.
We wanted to bet against the odds-on favourite, but we believe that TEMPTED (11) is the best Australian sprinter, and Australia’s best chance to beat Ka Ying Rising in The Everest.
Her win fresh-up at Randwick in the Concorde Stakes was excellent when holding off a fast-finishing Headwall, and that was her return from a spell. She will only be better with that run under her belt, and she is a strong mare.
Boasting eight wins from 13 starts, the 4YO daughter of Street Boss is likely to settle midfield from barrier 11 before unleashing her top turn-of-foot, and that should be enough to put this field away.
The odds are in the skinny range, and taking short odds always comes with a risk. However, she is the class sprinter in the field, and our Premiere Stakes predictions have her winning by a length.

Matthew Smith lines up HEADWALL (2), who had no luck when running second behind Tempted fresh-up, and he had excuses last start.
The back markers never had a chance behind Mazu at Randwick in The Shorts, but this race should be run differently. We expect more speed up front, and he should have no problem picking a path through the field.
Barrier 2 isn’t always the best place for him to be, as he gets back and needs luck in the straight, but Zac Lloyd is an aggressive rider, as we saw last week vs. James McDonald, and that could be enough to get him home.
The $9.50 odds for a runner of his quality are generous.

It’s interesting to see betting markets let NINJA (14) get out to $14. He was all the rage following his first-up win at Randwick when beating Napoleonic and subsequent Group 1 winner Angel Capital in the Missile Stakes.
The 4YO gelding shouldn’t have lost too many admirers when running ninth behind Mazu in The Shorts, and he was another runner that wasn’t suited by the pace of the race. We expect him to be better for the outing, and the odds are much higher than expected.
Barrier 14 doesn’t help, but he could settle handy to the speed and battle on well with Tommy Berry riding.

Punters get value odds with our Premiere Stakes SRM, which includes our three selected runners.
- To Win – No. 10 Tempted
- Top 3 – No. 3 Headwall
- Top 5 – No. 4 Ninja
We have Tempted to Win, Headwall Top 3, and Ninja Top 5, which pays $9.75 for our three-runner SRM.
Punters get $2.60 for Headwall to finish Top 3, which is a lovely price. He’s one of the top winning chances, so the odds are worth including in Premiere Stakes tips. Ninja pays $2.05 for a Top 5 result, and that’s another value price from the team.
