MONIX (2) was honest at Mildura last start when second beaten 1.5 lengths over 1000m, chasing strongly after settling just off the speed.
Prior to that, the Nathan Hobson-trained gelding won well at Bendigo on heavy ground, continuing a strong preparation that has already produced three wins.
He won over this course and distance just four starts ago and clearly handles cut in the ground.
Well named after Ed Monix from Semi-Pro given he’s out of Subprime, he can run another big race.

BONFIRE JIMMY (6) returned in excellent order on the Ballarat Synthetic when second beaten 0.75 lengths over 1000m behind a synthetic flyer.
He was held up at a key stage there before charging through late, suggesting the run had plenty of merit.
The Shane Jackson-trained gelding won his only previous second-up race at Warrnambool and will strip fitter.
Drawn beautifully in barrier 1 to settle in a prominent position.
