2026 Doomben 10000 Day Tips & Preview

2026 Doomben 10000 Day Tips & Preview

Saturday’s Doomben 10000 Day looks set to be a highlight of the Stradbroke Season, featuring a strong nine-race program packed with quality throughout.

At the time of writing, the track is rated a Soft 7, and with rain expected during the week, conditions are likely to have a significant impact across the meeting.

There are six black-type races on the card, headlined by what shapes as a high-class edition of the Doomben 10000, with a deep lineup of elite sprinters engaged.

The supporting races are equally intriguing, including the Spirit Of Boom Classic, which carries added emotion following the recent passing of the outstanding sire it honours.

With competitive fields and betting opportunities across all nine races, it’s a meeting full of depth and interest, so let’s dive into our Doomben Saturday racing preview and find a few winners.

Race 1 – MORETON HIRE Class 6 Handicap (1350 METRES)
No. 2 Midnight Dynamite

MIDNIGHT DYNAMITE (2) resumed in excellent fashion with a tough win over 1200m at Randwick.

The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding sat outside the leader and showed strong determination to get the verdict right on the line.

He’ll take improvement from that run, relishes this trip, and is well suited on rain-affected ground, having won on heavy and boasting three wins from five starts on soft going.

With James McDonald aboard from an inside draw, he should get every chance in the run.

Race 2 – DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 85 Handicap (1600 METRES)
No. 6 Galano
Each Way

GALANO (6) kicked off his preparation with a solid win over 1400m at the Gold Coast, finishing strongly despite encountering traffic.

The Matt Dunn-trained gelding has an excellent second-up profile, winning three of four attempts.

While his mile record isn’t overly strong, he did win over this course and distance on heavy ground earlier in his career.

He’s well-bred for wet conditions and should land in a midfield position or better.

Race 3 – XXXX QTIS 3-Y-O Plate (1350 METRES)
No. 2 Hidden Achievement

HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT (2) resumed in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas where a wide barrier saw him settle too far back before running on well into fourth.

The Chris Waller-trained colt returns to Queensland where he performed well last campaign, finishing second in the Group 1 JJ Atkins.

He’ll be fitter for that run and has previously won second-up on a Soft 7 surface.

From barrier 3, he maps to enjoy a much kinder run with James McDonald riding.

Race 4 – GROUP 2 SEVEN SPIRIT OF BOOM CLASSIC (1200 METRES)
No. 9 Dream Roca

DREAM ROCA (9) resumed with a solid effort in the Listed Dalrello Stakes, finishing third behind a very talented winner.

While the margin was sizeable, the form reads strongly given the winner’s standing heading into the BRC Sires’ Produce.

The Liam Birchley-trained gelding improves second-up and showed his quality last preparation when winning the Karaka Millions at this stage of his campaign.

From the inside gate, Ben Thompson should have him positioned prominently.

Race 5 – LISTED SKY RACING BERNBOROUGH HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
No. 2 Welwal

WELWAL (2) was dominant in his last-start victory in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude.

The Price & Kent Jnr-trained gelding displayed a sharp turn of foot to win comfortably by 1.5 lengths.

Although he resumes after a short break, he performs well when fresh and is ideally suited on soft ground.

A genuine tempo should allow him to settle with cover and finish strongly under James McDonald.

Race 6 – LISTED MAGIC MILLIONS BRIGHT SHADOW (1110 METRES)
No. 6 Lonhro’s Queen
Each Way

LONHRO’S QUEEN (6) returns to the races boasting an impressive first-up record of three wins from four starts.

That includes a strong win first-up last preparation for the Munce stable over 1000m at Eagle Farm.

She handles wet conditions well, highlighted by a dominant heavy track victory earlier in her career.

With speed expected, she should settle midfield and be finishing off strongly with Tim Clark aboard.

Race 7 – GROUP 3 JRA CHAIRMAN’S HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
No. 8 Nellie Laylax
Each Way

NELLIE LAYLAX (8) returned in good order last start with a narrow second over 1835m at Eagle Farm.

He was forced wide turning for home, which proved costly, but still hit the line strongly in heavy conditions.

The Annabel & Rob Archibald-trained galloper thrives in the wet and looks suited stepping up in distance.

From the inside barrier, he should enjoy an economical run throughout.

Race 8 – GROUP 1 LADBROKES DOOMBEN 10,000 (1200 METRES)
No. 10 Payline
Each Way

PAYLINE (10) ran a huge race in last year’s Doomben 10000, finishing a close third in heavy conditions.

The Chris & Corey Munce-trained gelding comes into this year’s edition in even better form.

He resumed with a strong third in the Ascot Handicap before finishing second in the Group 2 Victory Stakes on heavy ground.

He clearly relishes racing at Doomben and is well suited when there’s cut in the track.

Despite drawing wide, he should be able to slot in with cover given his recent starts, with Kyle Wilson-Taylor aboard.

Race 9 – GROUP 3 HKJC WORLD POOL ROUGH HABIT PLATE (2000 METRES)
No. 8 Accidental Bid
Tip of The Day

ACCIDENTAL BID (8) has made an immediate impact since joining the Ciaron Maher stable.

He broke through with a maiden win at Pakenham before stepping up in trip and producing a dominant 7.75-length victory last start.

That win came on a Heavy 8 surface, suggesting conditions will suit again here.

While this is another rise in class, he looks to have above-average ability and, with luck from the wide draw, should be highly competitive.
