We’re set for a huge edition of the Champions Sprint at Flemington on the final day of the 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival!
Imperatriz has been faultless since arriving back in Australia, but this will be her first start away from The Valley this time, and with some many talented sprinters engaged, she’s going to need to be at her very best to win the Champions Sprint.
You can find my complete 2023 Champions Sprint Tips below!
She’s untested down the straight, but Imperatriz’s form this time in makes it impossible to tip against her, in my opinion.
She’s a multiple Group 1 winner in New Zealand, and she added the William Reid to her CV back in the autumn of this year.
Having already won all of the McEwen Stakes, Moir Stakes and Manikato Stakes this time, she steps out in Saturday’s Grand Final in peak order, and the booking of regular rider Opie Bosson obviously adds further confidence.
Asfoora’s only defeat this time in came at the hands of Imperatriz in the Moir Stakes, and she too takes her place in the Champions Sprint field in peak order.
The classy mare has been Henry Dwyer’s stable star since making her debut, and she has continued to improve with each prep, and as the bar has been raised.
Wins in the Group 3 Heath and Group 2 Schillaci this time have already made her campaign a success, but a Group 1 race certainly doesn’t look beyond her.
If there’s an ideal Group 1 target for Star Patrol, its certainly the Champions Sprint, and I think he’ll run another great race on Saturday.
He’s always been a good horse, but Star Patrol has certainly reached new heights since transferring to the care of Clinton McDonald, and his form this time has been faultless; consecutive wins in Group 2 company at this track and trip.
His proven ability down the straight alone can see him into the finish, and he really does appear to be in career-best form.
Lofty Strike steps out this week second-up, and I think he can run another cheeky race in the Champions Sprint.
He was a big drifter on race day before finishing down the order in the Caulfield Sprint first-up last month, but he boasts a strong second-up record and importantly, he is Group 1 performed own the straight.
Damien Oliver rides in his final Champions Sprint, and I have well and truly factored that into this tip. At any rate, the horse is massive overs at Champions Sprint odds of $51 (at publish).
